Palace not letting go of tourism chief

Malacañang is not letting go of Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim over the “Pilipinas Kay Ganda” campaign fiasco, apparently satisfied that the resignation of Undersecretary Vicente Romano had settled the issue.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda Wednesday dismissed suggestions that Lim should resign as well, saying that Romano had admitted to being responsible for the ill-fated branding project and had resigned as a result.

Lacierda made it clear that President Benigno Aquino III was fully behind Lim even as a number of senators have threatened to derail Lim’s confirmation in the congressional Commission on Appointments.

“It was Romano who was on top of the logo project. [Lim] left it to Undersecretary Romano to undertake that project. He [Romano] admitted his mistakes and offered to resign,” Lacierda told reporters.

Lacierda said the accusation that Lim is not sensitive of the concerns of industry stakeholders was “entirely inaccurate.”

He said those in the industry who are seeking Lim’s resignation were “against Secretary Lim from the very beginning.”

“They are against his views on the liberalized aviation policies, and this is just a convenient excuse for them to use this issue against Secretary Lim,” he said.

He said Mr. Aquino met with Romano and Lim the other day when Romano told the President that he was resigning.

He said Mr. Aquino accepted Romano’s resignation with “reluctance.” He added that the President “appreciated” Romano’s actions.

He also said the Palace was also “pleased” with the public reaction to Romano’s resignation as “it shows that this administration has the standards required of each public official, that of decency and accountability.”

Lacierda said the President had instructed Lim to come up with a new marketing plan and logo and to show this to him before he makes a presentation.

“The President told them [the DoT] to conduct a focused group discussion as well,” he said.

Bumbling Cabinet members and officials who have embarrassed the administration in less than six months in office should follow the lead of Romano and resign, said Sen. Vicente Sotto III.

“If they want to help the government, if they want to help their boss, they should admit to their shortcomings, if ever they make a mistake,” he said.

Too sad Romano had to take the fall for Lim/DOT/Pnoy. Romano's a part of the team but we all know who approves the suggestions & proposals, Sec Lim of course.

Stupidest thing I've ever heard. Tourists don't need to be convinced to learn our language. A person's desire to learn a language almost always arises from his interest in the culture in which that language is a part of. If tourists like our culture, they will try to learn our language out of their own volition.

It's considered great and a triumph if Barack Obama utters 2 Tagalog words? Intawon Ginoo, naa pa ba kaha ni pag-asa ang Pilipinas nga ang mga tawo in position mga magbaw ug utok.

Well, since she hasn't accomplished anything substantial yet so far, I would say bobo pud ni siya. People with good academic records can be stupid too, especially if their "book smart asness" doesn't translate to results. What has she accomplished can you name anything? The Ampatuan trial looks like a disaster that will drag on for centuries. The report on bus hostage crisis was edited by her boss and its recommendations tossed into the trash-bin. Hahaha.. Bright jud, bright sa zero accomplishment like her boss.

Let's face it, the fact you can only point to one cabinet official who may not be that stupid (and that's arguable) shows how desperate you are to continue to hold on to the belief that you didn't make a mistake voting for someone who turns out isn't the savior you expected.
