Maybe someone from the lighter books this time—less penny dreadfuls, less gothic literature—more regular English lit class. But, definitely, not Sarah Crew or Meg from Little Women. David Balfour and Sir Percy Blakeney could work. Fanny Hill would be great!

If we're sticking to the Victorian Era, Sherlock would be best. But, Cumberbatch is Sherlock. So, go Walter Hartwright. Add in Griffin the Invisible Man and someone Dickensian like Pip. Maybe a cameo from Phileas Fogg and Passepartout.

ah i thought they were referring to a popular penny dreadful character. so.. sherlock.. would they put him in with rusk? fanny hill and dorian gray? david balfour and the house of shaws? sir percy blakeney, the fop hero with the secret identity? walter hartright, the drawing teacher? griffin the invisible man, the gifted research scientist? pip, the orphan who wanted to become a gentleman? and jules verne's phileas fogg and passepartout? i guess they'd all make compelling and complex characters. i'm actually imagining how they'd be integrated into the already complicated world of penny dreadful. season 3 here yet?
