Waste of time or not, you still bypass the scientific process. Applying it in that example isn't hard anyway:

1. Ask the neighbor who gave the turtle.
2. Call the friend who supposedly gave the turtle, ask him about it and if he concurs, thank him. (I would stop here)
3. If you're really skeptic or if you find that particular friend to be untrustworthy on several occasions, ask for the purchase receipt
4. If you're really really skeptic, go to the store where your friend purchased the turtle
5. (...so on and so forth...)

Obviously most people won't go into so much trouble just to solve the mystery turtle in the kitchen. It's not too much of a leap of faith either that a friend indeed gave that turtle to you as a gift. Or maybe it crawled from the ocean all the way to your kitchen. Both are physically possible. The important thing is to formulate a theory based on the available evidence.

The mystery of the universe, however, is another story. Where science can, at the moment, say and is not afraid to say "I don't know" until evidence becomes available to properly answer the big question (probably in the next 100 or 1000 years), creationists just flat out believe without evidence that "God did it". Perhaps they find comfort that they should have an answer to life's biggest question, but for others, that answer just won't do.

If that is what you believed, wala koy right mo violate ana. Likewise sa mga theists.
Ang nakanindot lang if youre in the position of believing in God while pursuing science is that youre safe and confident sa imong pagsearch deeper sa kamatuoran.

Obviously, mankind is advancing because he is curious, because he keeps on trying to break the chains binded to him by people who blindly obeys without question. Because he chose science, he chose to dig facts and find evidence. If only religion didn't exist before then i think we would be 10x more advanced. Kasayang sa panahon.

Science = solid proof or explanations, theories about everything
