@marishelle; I don't have a shop (this is a hobby for me, not a business), but let's see what we can do. Can you take a screenshot of Settings > Language & keyboard or give me a list of what keyboards are listed there, and if they're checked, etc.? I need to have a clearer idea on what's going on with your phone. Alternatively, download GO Keyboard from here (since you apparently can't install via the Play Store) and save it to your PC. Just transfer the file to your phone's storage (SD card or internal storage) using your PC, then on your phone, use the file manager / file browser to open the file to install it. Once installed, go to Settings > Language & keyboard and activate (check) it. Set it as your default keyboard.

@reyscott1968; He means USB tethering from phone to tablet (ie. the tablet uses the phone's Internet connection while the two devices are connected via USB. He mentioned that WiFi tethering tethering works, but wants to use a USB cable, probably to preserve battery.

@trazee; Unfortunately, USB tethering via phone to (Android) tablet is only possible if your tablet is rooted and has a custom kernel that supports device-device USB tethering. If your tablet meets the requirements (or is rooted, but you're not sure of the kernel), try the following:
    1. Connect your phone and your tablet.
    2. Turn on USB tethering on your phone.
    3. On your tablet, open Terminal Emulator and type the following (press enter after each line):
    su
    dhcpcd usb1
    setprop net.dns1 8.8.8.8

If your tablet isn't rooted, then I'm afraid direct phone-to-tablet USB tethering isn't possible. If you're looking to preserve battery life, how about trying Bluetooth tethering instead? I think it uses less battery than WiFi tethering.

There's no official ICS release, however you can get an ICS or even JB custom rom for your SGS. The catch is that your phone must be rooted and with a custom recovery before you can flash the new rom. The pros is that you get a new OS on your phone. The cons is that the SGS can be sensitive to flashing and there's the risk of bricking the device. However, the risk can be minimized if you know what you're doing.
