wooooooooooooo! Kapamilya gyd! bhala na!
Dyan Castillejo on Pacquiao interview: "I'm just doing my job, and I'm happy to do it.
When the controversy broke out about the "Kamao" documentary of Dyan Castillejo featuring boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked to arrange an interview with the ABS-CBN senior sports correspondent to ask for her side regarding the matter. (Click HERE to read related article.)
Through the help of Kane Errol Choa of ABS-CBN's Corporate Communications department, we were able to talk with Dyan last January 21, at the Red Berry Roast Chicken restaurant located at The Loop, ELJ Building.
The "Kamao" episode of the late-night show The Correspondents achieved double-digit figures, based on data from TNS (Taylor Nelson Sofres) Metro Manila. It was aired on the Kapamilya Network last January 6 as the show's opening salvo for 2009.
Dyan narrates, "The Correspondents approached me and asked if I could be a guest correspondent 'cause they wanted to bring out the story of Manny Pacquiao, how he rose from humble beginnings to where he is today.
"I called Manny and said, ‘Manny, we're doing a special feature on you and we're gonna interview you.' He said, ‘O sige, dun na lang kay Manong Chavit [Singson's house]. I also contacted someone from Team Pacquiao and he said, ‘Yeah, no problem.'"
On December 22, Dyan and her two cameramen went to the despida-cum-victory part hosted by Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson. They were welcomed by the owner of the house and Chavit even instructed the crew to set up their lights in his dining room.
"The Correspondents crew arrived at 7:30 p.m. and then ako, mga 8 p.m. and Manong Chavit instructed them to set up dun sa may kanyang dining room," recalls Dyan. "I think Manny arrived at about 9:30 or 9:45 p.m. Of course, he was mobbed by everybody. He went to all the tables in the garden, he had picture taking, he signed autographs, mga gano'n."
After waiting for two hours, Dyan and her team finally had the chance to talk with the Pambansang Kamao. "Close to 11 p.m., si Chavit mismo nagdala kay Manny dun sa dining room. Then, masaya naman kami. Then si Manny, he even said to me ‘O, Dyan kelangan maganda 'tong interview na ‘to ha.'"
"The interview happened mga eleven...we started at about 11:05 p.m. At that time, there was no traffic from Corinthian Gardens, I remember I got home at 12:30."
Since the issue broke out, Dyan revealed that she watched the tape again to refresh her memory about the controversial interview.
"Actually, I watched the show again today just to refresh my memory and I can see na, nung naponood ko, masigla si Manny, very masigla, happy, talking about yung humble beginnings niya. Nagtitinda siya dati ng pandesal, donut, naglilinis ng kotse... Parang, he was enjoying recalling his past, and hindi n'ya ikinahihiya yung past n'ya."
Did the interview last for three hours?
"No, it didn't last three hours, 35 minutes nga. Tapos when I heard about it nga, I checked with the cameraman, it was 35 minutes. One tape is really one hour only and we didn't change tapes."
She later pointed out: "There's a counter on the tape and the tape says 35 minutes."
Is she affected by this controversy?
"Actually, no. I'm just doing my job, and I'm happy to do it," she says with a smile.
KAPUSO TALENT. In a previous interview, GMA-7's SVP for Entertainment, Ms. Wilma Galvante, pointed out that Manny should inform the Kapuso network about interviews like this. "As an exclusive Kapuso talent, bago ang gagawin mo, kahit ano, magpapaalam ka,'" she said during press conference last January 16.
Does Dyan agree with this arrangement?
"I don't think that's the case for news, since the whole world interviews Pacquiao," says the ABS-CBN senior sports correspondent. "I think that extends to activities like having a show. I'm sure he cannot have a regular show in ABS-CBN, he can't have a regular sitcom or a drama, but I don't think there's exclusivity, otherwise everybody would've been violating for the last ten years."
"SHE WAS MISINFORMED." Is Dyan angry with Ms. Wilma and GMA-7 senior programa manager Redgie Magno, who declared outright that Dyan is "lying" about the length of the interview?
"No, I'm not angry. Maybe she [Ms. Wilma] was misinformed," says Dyan. "I don't think she was there. I didn't see her. But I know her. She's a friend of mine. Yeah, we have a common friend."
How long have you been friends?
"Not too long...we have a common friend, si Jessica Rodriguez. We had dinner one time. I also know Redgie Magno. We haven't had a problem in the past."
If you bump into them, will be okay with them both? "I will. I'm not the type [to keep a grudge], basta I'm just really doing my job. I haven't offended anybody, I haven't broken any rule, as you can see."
Dyan, a reporter who has been in sports journalism for the past 16 years, ends the interview by saying, "The time is not really the issue, so even if it was 45 minutes, there's no rule. I really haven't done anything wrong. I'm just doing my job."
For Dyan Castillejo, she will continue doing the thing that she loves doing most: interviewing athletes.
kanang uban gud diha pataka taka lng padaku sa issue.ambot nalng.
Ana gyud na sila, Dili man gud kahibawo unsa ilang buhaton kang paquiao. Nasuya cguro sila ky nabuhat man sa ABS ang dapat sila unta ang mobuhat. Wala man gud silay alamag bahin sa sports. hahay! trying hard kaau.
exclusive kanguso diay si pacman??
ambot lng. murag. exclusive tingale sa shows and all. but for interviews,di man cguro.
Another thing that I love most about ABS-CBN is they have this very comforting voice overs. I have been hearing this faceless voice for as long as I can remember.
talent nila?nganu kaha nga nahimong talent nila si pacman na dili man gikan sa pacman sa GMA from the start.
up lang ko anih!
"Wowowee" visits Dubai; kicks off 2009 TFC World Tours
20,000 watch 'Wowowee' live in Dubai
Willie Revillame brought happiness to our kababayans in the Middle East when he visited Dubai for the first time last January 30, 2009.
This marks the beginning of Wowowee's 2009 TFC World Tours, which is part of the 15th anniversary celebration of The Filipino Channel (TFC) and the 4th anniversary of the ABS-CBN noontime show. The event, dubbed as "WowoWillie: Round the World...Touchdown in Dubai!" is also part of Willie Revillame's birthday.
Dominique Pechuela-Famador of ABS-CBN Global in the Middle East shared photos and her description of the event that was highly anticipated by our kababayans abroad.
Joining Willie abroad was ABS-CBN president Charo Santos Concio, COO of ABS-CBN Global Raffy Lopez, business unit head Bobot Mortiz, director Johnny Manahan, ABS-CBN Middle East managing director Egay Garcia and ambassador to the UAE Libran Cabactulan.
Mr. Lopez revealed to ABS-CBN TV Patrol Sabado last night, January 31, that the TFC World Tours will also reach Italy as well as the United States, particularly Florida and Las Vegas.
Dubai, UAE—"TFC World Tours' Wowowee in Dubai held at the Dubai Festival City on January 30, 2009 is one of the most anticipated Filipino live shows in the UAE. By January 29, a day prior to the event, more than 19,000 ticket sales were recorded. As early as 8 'o clock in the evening of the 29th, the first batch of fans from Abu Dhabi arrived ready to brave the cold outdoor just to have a guaranteed front row [seat] of the event. They placed a mat beside their parked automobiles and shared a 'picnic' before retiring for the night.
At 9 o'clock in the morning of THE DAY, about 700 people lined up piling hundreds and hundreds more by the minute. The gates were supposed to open by noontime but the organizers had to move it an hour earlier to give space to the massively growing crowd. Inside, the eager audiences entertained themselves by visiting the booths offering food and beverages, merchandise and special offers. Sponsors provided a distraction from the hours of waiting by raffles of token items, upcoming event passes among others. The throng would cheer at the sight of video and still cameras or to the tune of advertising jingles. The ticket holders, through their raffle stubs, had their chance to get picked for the 'Pera o Bayong' portion prior to the beginning of the show.
Bottles of water distributed by the organizers would comfort the thirsty and heat-exhausted mob only for a short while. They waited impatiently under the heat of the sun on that winter afternoon just to see Papi and the rest of the Wowowee gang.
The talented formerly Dubai-based Pinoy Dream Academy scholar Liezel Garcia charmed the crowd with her renditions of 'Disturbia', 'Take a Bow', 'Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw.' She shared her experiences on her unrelenting faith that her dreams will come true, encouraging her once fellow OFWs to never stop striving for what their hearts yearn. Owen psyched the whole of the venue up to be fully recovered from their weariness with his perky introduction prior to selecting the 20 Bigat-10 for the 'Hep Hep Hooray!' segment.
Formally starting the party are the highly spirited dancers Luningning, Milagring, Mariposa, Saicy Aguila and alluring co-hosts Mariel Rodriguez, Valerie Concepcion, and Pokwang performing their sultry belly-dancing inspired entrance.
Willie yelled his signature "ARE YOU READY?!" before emerging onstage. The audiences were revved up of Willie's medley of his singles 'Wowowee', 'Buksan Mo Papasukin Ako', 'Umaalog-alog', 'Sayaw Darling', 'Rock n Rollin',
'Igiling-giling' by which he was joined by his lovely lady hosts onstage. Joining the ensemble are Filipino dancers from Dubai that Papi himself called 'ASF Dubai.'
Willie picked the 20 Bigat-10 among the best 'Igiling-giling' dancers who are lucky to get a close proximity from the stage. All twenty Hep Hep Hooray challengers received gift packs from sponsors. Included in the game was a Palestinian married to a Filipina who was thrilled to join the merry-making. A salon-worker who waited from 6 o' clock in the morning won the prize of P100,000 for the portion.
Valerie, Mariel and RR were then joined by Lito Camo to render a 'Camo Medley' reprising the novelty composer's most popular hits. Winning the Big Time Pera O Bayong jackpot prize of a house & lot and a total of P100,000 in cash is Aling Flor—a former domestic helper living in the UAE for twenty-two years and a mother of four kids.
A rather posh Pokwang clad in black sang Rihanna's 'Please Don't Stop the Music.' The people got more keyed up to see an audience join her on stage frantically dancing to her song. A proud former OFW, shared her first time in Japan in her most comical self. Her stand-up comic act blended very well with songs from her album.
A male audience unreservedly sang 'One Moment in Time' with Pokey. The most poignant segment of the program was the 'Willie of Fortune' where our kababayans were shown struggling and surviving for many years in the UAE. As a bonus, surprise emotional messages from their loved ones back home were shown to the large screens onstage. Everyone felt like a 'kapamilya' as they witnessed that brief reunion between the contestants and their families. Aling Pacita won in the final elimination round 'Tanong ko, Sagutin Mo' gearing her for the 'Pasalog' game. All-in-all she won a total of P65,000 cash and brand new car.
Charice, the 'most talented girl in the world' dubbed by Oprah Winfrey no less, wowed the crowd gathered in the Dubai Festival City concert arena. Her powerful voice filled the area as she belted Celine Dion's greatest hits 'Alone' and 'Because You Loved Me.' This is Charice's first visit to Dubai. She took this advantage to shake the hands of her Dubai fans for the first time. And Dubai apparently just can't get enough of her.
Willie acknowledged the presence of ABS-CBN president Charo Santos Concio, COO of ABS-CBN Global Raffy Lopez, Business Unit Head Bobot Mortiz, Director Johnny Manahan, ABS-CBN Middle East Managing Director Egay Garcia and Ambassador to the UAE Libran Cabactulan among other dignitaries in attendance. He touched the hearts and uplifted the spirits of everyone through a moving speech.
In time for nightfall, he requested everyone to light their mobile phones as a form of unity. The crowd unified as one as Willie sang his offering single 'Munting Hiling' dedicated to the Filipino heroes all over the world.
A tear-jerking AVP showed stories of the overseas Pinoys world and their families who miss and love them unfolded in the set of Wowowee. Closing the night was Willie's medley of love songs while the girls of Wowowee gave away t-shirts to the multitude. By the end of the long-awaited event, the humid atmosphere was replaced by much cooler weather of the night. Through four hours of fun, music and prizes, Papi worked his magic yet again, mingling with and warming the hearts of thousands of his believers...this time in Dubai."
