If my memory serves me right. Dili man na apil sa tradition sa UP ang oblation run. Ang APO(Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity) man ang nagpasiugda ani to celebrate the founding anniversary of the fraternity. Before sa hiskul pa ko, idungan man ni nila sa College Week every February.

Pwede ra man makakita ang dili taga-UP, open ra man ang UP Campus, ambot lang karon kung pareha ra ba sad sa una ka open(sulod gawas ang mga tawo). Partially correct. Allow me to reiterate what I said earlier:

• The UP-APO Oblation Run, aka The Ritual Dance of the Brave, is an annual tradition by ETA Chapter which started in 1977 when one of our brothers ran naked around the campus to promote the play 'Hubad Na Bayani'. The play was about the excesses and human rights violations of the Marcos regime.The method of promotion and the play was a success. The Run, at present and true to its origins, is basically streaking by APO-ETA members as a form of protest and also to call the attention of the public on the social issues of the day. Some may say this is just attention grabbing. For the sake of argument, I will grant that. But don't you have to grab the attention of your target first, before you can send your message? Isn't that what advertising, even by your favorite products, does?

It was APO-UPD who started the tradition, so it is our tradition. It can now also be considered a UP tradition because:

• UPD now allows this to happen annually;
• UPD issues a permit allowing APO to hold the Oblation Run;
• UPD allows the Run to happen inside its campus;
• UPD includes the Oblation Run in its calendar of activities, along with other December activities (e.g. Lantern Parade).

OT:
I think what lindsey8383 meant there as a trademark of UP is that UP students are willing to protest, i.e. go to the streets, if they think their and the Filipinos' rights and freedom are being trampled on. UP students are also willing to fight for something they truly believe in.

It is hard for non-UP students to comprehend this mentality, because Filipinos are taught from birth to respect authority. But this is the UP culture. UP students are not afraid to speak their minds kahit sino pa masagasaan nila, as long as they believe they are right. This is what makes UP unique and this is what makes UP great.

You may say that binabayaran ng bansa ang mga UP para mag protesta sa kalsada, but don't you realize that it is your rights and freedom that we fight for in the streets? The taxes that you spend, we pay for with blood and sweat in the streets while others cower in their corners and say: 'Wala naman akong magagawa. Kahit anong gawin ko matutuloy din yan. Natatakot ako. Bahala na.'

Pagkatapos ng pagkatakot-takot na threats and promises ni Sec. Leila de Lima to prosecute the alleged APO suspect, why would she quietly drop the case? Dahil na WOW MALI sya. That simple. She was hounding the wrong guy.

Tradition na just like any other fraternities, theres always a reason behind every tradition. People should understand and dont judgeas to what they've only seen.
