Terminator Gets Full Season Order
The Sarah Connor Chronicles will continue.
US, October 17, 2008 - Rejoice my fellow Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles fans - The show has just been given a full 22 episode second season by FOX.
The future had been looking rather bleak for the series, in the wake of less than stellar ratings for its second season, and there was a lot of uncertainty over it going beyond the initial 13 episodes ordered this year. In fact, some reports absolutely insisted the show was over and about to wrap production permanently, even as news came out that two additional scripts for episodes 14 and 15 had been ordered.
In FOX's originally listed schedule for this winter, Terminator, along with Prison Break, was not included – both shows were scheduled to take a break, as 24 returns to FOX in January, to be paired with Joss Whedon's Dollhouse on Mondays. The Reporter's James Hibberd speculates that one factor in FOX going forward with more Terminator is that Dollhouse had had some creative struggles and could be delayed.
However, he then goes on to say that the most likely reason for the pickup is simply that FOX executives feel Terminator is creatively a strong show, and has a chance of improving in the ratings in the second half of the season - When American Idol returns, the network's overall ratings always get a boost.
Of course, Terminator continues to air in an extremely competitive timeslot, and many fans -- myself included -- have noted that the show could possibly benefit by moving to Wednesday nights at 9:00, after Bones.
The good news is that regardless of what night it airs, we'll at least get to see the full season play out.
