I think the key here is for octal you can only count as high as 7 before going back to 0. Its just like the decimal system but instead of multiples 10 for every decimal place, it will be multiples 8 for every place on the octal number system. example in decimal: 7+2 = 9 whereas on octal 7+2 = 11.

in decimal
7+2 = 9 (since you can only add another decimal place with on the ones place has exceeded 9)

in octal
7+2 = 11(a new octal place is added since the ones place has exceed 7 and in octal you can only count to as high as 7).

Again i dont know if im making sense to you.

The highest single digit in octal is 7. After 7 diretso na sya sa 10.

So...

dec oct
8 = 10
9 = 11
10 = 12
and so on..

That is why ang 22 sa decimal is equal to 26 in octal.

It basically the same as division on decimal.

1/101 = 0 for 1010111
10/101 = 0 for 1010111
101/101= 1 for 1010111
0/101 = 0 for 1010111
01/101 = 0 for 1010111
011/101 = 0 for 1010111
0111/101 = 1 for 1010111

OT: ako daughter sa gradeschool is asking me why kuno October is 10th month, nga ang Oct related man sa 8, and why also December is 12th month, nga ang Dec related sa 10 man unta. wa jud ko kaexplain ako lang giinganan tulog sa ko nak kay labad ako ulu. hehe anybody here naay idea ani?
