It can also tie in to UAV surveillance videos. With its 5-hour endurance, the Super Tucano can stay over an area of operations much longer than a typical fast mover.

The first of the Super Tucanos are probably supporting Navy SEAL operators in Afghanistan now.

Brings back memories of the A-1 Skyraider "Sandy", a single-engine prop-driven relic from just after the Second World War that excelled in the close air support and combat search-and-rescue roles in Vietnam (check the movies "Flight of the Intruder" or "BAT-21", the mottled camouflage plane that does low-level strafing runs on foot soldiers closing in on the good guys)

Perhaps an aircraft like this can also be of use to our men in uniform? It should also cost a lot less to operate than a Cobra. And comes a couple of million dollars cheaper. Most importantly, it can loiter over the battlefield much longer than helicopters. Very important to our troops in a protracted engagement.

Blackwater, the shadowy private security contractor, is said to have ordered a few COIN versions of the Super Tucano for use in Iraq.

You don't need a carrier if you have a lot of islands. You can build airstrips on those islands and spend a lot less. Besides, the Philippines already has plenty of airports.

Aircraft carriers are best operated in the open ocean. India already has a carrier and China wants to have one or two within the next few years (2015-2020). These are certainly not used for internal security but for power projection.

Besides, we obviously don't have the resources to purchase, much less operate one.

Re the Super Tucano, a plane of that size might cost about P20,000/hour or less to operate. A C-130 on the other hand will cost about P250,000/hour to fly. So the AC-130 Spectre isn't all that cost-effective for us.

yes,, the "bug" can be removed with no prob to the cg..we called it the "bug" cause the size of that baby was compared to vw beettle before..replace it with a 'door stopper' or a fuel cell....on the cluster bomb, as far as i know, its only the anti-personnel version is ban, not sure of the anti-tank version,,both of them lays dormant till they sense vibration or pressure...the one im talking about is the grenade version.. "when it rain,,, it pours"

na murag mahal ra na, building carriers.

1st; wala ta plane nga makarga ana, basin dili katake-off ana ato plane kay old na, kulang ug boster
2nd; dili na kinahanglan kay dghan ta airport ug dili man sab milya2x ang kalayo sa island nato
    3rd; pang-open seas ang carriers
4th; guro mas maau if navy ships ato e-upgrade.

dapat guro mag-start tas ibabaw, planes or helis, then sa dagat, then ground troops dayon.

engon nila "who owns the sky and water, win the war"

if nendot ato fighter plane ug navy ships. mas competitive ta kontra sa in-house terrorist/rebelde.

ug engon sad nila " country can be measure through military power, the greater the military power, the richer the country" ..

so why not start in providing military power? then the rest will follow..

    hehehe..

cguro Amphibious assault ships w/ apaches, upgraded marines, a few jump jets like harrier. Dli man tag mga world war. etc. Black hawks/chinnok type for transport. upgraded ground troops. upgraded nga navy. no carriers or battleships. battleships, frigates..support ra na cla sa carriers. the best war planner

a decent camp, a good supplies, a better equipment for war.

if the government truly dedicated to buy helis, well, its a good start diba? at least nalng jud..
then from there, e-upgrade na nila tanan equipment sa military force, hasta ang mga camps.

by the way, who knows which is better, the Apache or cobra? i've seen docus about apache, and they are so cool!!! apaches are truly dedicated to search and destroy... and the unbelievable is, they are built by hands.. not machines(robotics).. manufactured by boeing.

and also the tanks that they've used in irag war, the most modern and top 1 tanks in the world, claimed by the americans. (forgot the names)
