I have friends who studied in UP Diliman who tell me that the Oblation run Is a revered tradition by the APO fraternity. The members consider it a privilege to run. Not everyone can participate in it. They do it to further a cause, to draw attention to an issue they support. The Oblation - the naked man with his arms outstretched - is UP's symbol, and because it is the university's symbol, the participants of the run emulate it. The Oblation, by itself means, "I have nothing but knowledge."

But I invite you to visit the APO tambayan during school days and ask the brothers there about their acads. It's at the end of AS 101, just outside the Greenhouse, AS Bldg. (aka Palma Hall for non-UPD). It's the tambayan directly opposite the door to the AS lobby, with blue concrete benches and a white canopy overhead.

2012's Oblation Run is on 14 December (next Friday), 12 noon, at the AS Steps.

Edit: This schedule is for UP Diliman.

Edit 2: UP Lahug/UP Cebu's Oblation Run will also be on the 14th, at 1500H (3pm).

Nindot man sad maka-witness ani maski kausa lang. It's their tradition and wala ta mabuhat ana. And it is always covered by media, so the hype will always be there. Freshies will get even more curious about it. They look forward to it. Most grad and junior students don't care that much. That's just how it is.
