Obviously, they're watching too much TV
You know that the Geneva Convention condemns that kind of warfare including UN.
AC-130 is a feasible option however with the terrain in Mindanao, you can hardly see those little enemies when they are covered or camouflaged in foliage![]()

You're right. Even the US military admitted this. Years ago, the CIA flew a Schweizer RG-8 Condor spy plane over the jungles of Basilan to look for the kidnapped Burnham couple. Later on it was P-3 Orions. Even a NASA DC-8 flew "watershed mapping" missions south of Zamboanga. Gnat AUVs (the precursor of the Predator) were also used.
Even with all the advanced sensors on these aircraft, they had difficulty spotting signs of life through the thick jungle canopy. Or so they said.![]()
Even if you do spot signs of life, such as campfires and the like, how do you know it isn't innocent civilians? You still need boots on the ground to verify and call in an air strike.
hehehe but that's not a problem. the AC-130 Gunship can coordinate with ground troops. ground troops can just give coordinates to enemy bases or camps even though they are camouflaged. and the AC-130 Gunship is equipped with a 105 mm Howitzer Cannon which can destroy a tank with 1 round.
The US Special Forces may already have a lot of aerial assets at their disposal but they are adding yet another. They're leasing (not purchasing) armed versions of the Embraer Super Tucano turboprop trainer/light attack aircraft.

Under a program dubbed "Imminent Fury", the Super Tucanos will be equipped with the latest infra-red surveillance, tracking and targeting sensors coupled with laser and GPS-guided bombs, rockets and a 50-cal machine gun. It can also tie in to UAV surveillance videos. With its 5-hour endurance, the Super Tucano can stay over an area of operations much longer than a typical fast mover.
The first of the Super Tucanos are probably supporting Navy SEAL operators in Afghanistan now.
Brings back memories of the A-1 Skyraider "Sandy", a single-engine prop-driven relic from just after the Second World War that excelled in the close air support and combat search-and-rescue roles in Vietnam (check the movies "Flight of the Intruder" or "BAT-21", the mottled camouflage plane that does low-level strafing runs on foot soldiers closing in on the good guys)
Perhaps an aircraft like this can also be of use to our men in uniform? It should also cost a lot less to operate than a Cobra. And comes a couple of million dollars cheaper. Most importantly, it can loiter over the battlefield much longer than helicopters. Very important to our troops in a protracted engagement.
Seal Plane
Blackwater, the shadowy private security contractor, is said to have ordered a few COIN versions of the Super Tucano for use in Iraq.
