Cone shaken by Alaska's close win over SMB
Having two relatively less heralded players leading an ambush against his tested team was something Alaska coach Tim Cone cannot fathom. That’s exactly what almost happened last Sunday, leaving the usually amiable mentor shaken despite the fact the Aces got away with an 85-84 escape against the San Miguel Beermen in the KFC PBA Philippine Cup at the Astrodome.
"If I had a gun I would have shot (Bonbon) Custodio, the son-of-a-gun," Cone blurted out during the post-game interview, using a light-hearted jab in trying to hide his frayed nerves on the heels of the intense game. Of course, he was referring to the SMB rookie who helped spearhead the Beermen’s blistering start, but he might as well also have had sophomore Jonas Villanueva in his crosshairs. The two guards combined for 12 of the Beermen’s first 16 points before Custodio and Danny Seigle extended San Miguel’s lead to as many as 19 points.

Santos and Se, who were instrumental in the Express’ runner-up finish in the last Fiesta Conference, were also fined P20,000 each by the PBA for committing flagrant fouls (category 2).

Rain or Shine rookie named weekend's best by PBA Press Corps
Solomon Mercado, Rain or Shine’s rookie guard, was named on Monday the 2008-09 season’s first Philippine Basketball Association Press Corps Player of the Opening Weekend.
Mercado dropped impressive numbers in his league debut Sunday, including 29 points, the highest scoring output by a rookie since Asi Taulava had 32 in 1999.
The burly alumnus from Biola University in Southern California led the Elasto Painters to a convincing 120-102 win over the Air21 Express, the franchise’s first opening-day victory.

Rain or Shine's chances of making it far is really so good, especially considering the performances of Solomon Mercado and Eddie Laure in their game against Air21. If both will play consistently during the season, Rain or Shine is going to be among the top teams to beat, a pretty big surprise. Beating Air21 in a run and gun game is not easy.
well, pba should be San Miguel basketball league.if you noticed, they have 4 teams if im right?trading players and coaches as well is hassle-free.
