In other words, you want me to do your homework for you. What a lamer!
If you want to accuse someone of wrongdoing, YOU should be the one conducting the research.
But not only are you lazy, you're prejudiced as well. You make rash judgements of persons without evidence. That's not just dumb, it's unfair.
Again, you're just assuming it's all for the statue. The little data we have so far indicates that it's for the entire project, which includes numerous facilities and services. These will stimulate economic activity in the area. But you're so obsessed with the statue that you're blind to all of the rest.is the 1 billion statue worth building nowadays despite the global crisis
Can you show me the evidence that the amount is for the statue ONLY?
No. As usual. ZERO EVIDENCE.
That is totally *****ic.
All we are asking is that you come up with the facts first BEFORE you condemn someone. Is that so difficult? If the evidence shows Fr. Suarez is wrong, then you can criticize him. But if there's no evidence to begin with, you have nothing. If you go on attacking him without evidence, you only display your own mindless PREJUDICE.
But you don't even have the decency to get the facts first. Wow, you atheists are so moral and fair... NOT!

Fr. Suarez is the founder of Mary Mother of the Poor Charitable Organizations, an Canadian-registered non-profit organization of Catholic religions and lay persons.
Mission
To seek holiness in evangelizing and working with the poor through the intercessions of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Objectives
1) To relieve Poverty by providing food and other basic supplies to persons of low income, by establishing, operating and maintaining shelters for the homeless, and by providing counseling and other similar programs to relieve poverty.
2) To coordinate health care & social services for people with debilitating diseases, illnesses and conditions including aging.
3) To advance & teach religious tenets, doctrines, observances and culture associated with the Roman Catholic faith.
4) To provide supervised programs intended to help youth develop their talents and become good citizens.
Projects that this organizations been supporting:
Livelihood & Economic Development Projects
1)Fish Farming (Butong, Batangas, Philippines)
MMP to finance the establishment of fish farms to help provide further economic opportunities for the poor in Butong.
2)Handicrafts (Butong, Batangas, Philippines)
MMP is funding the startup of a handicrafts workshop for women in Butong, Batangas as part of its livehood program aimed at expanding economic opportunities in the area.
Education/Scholarships
In 2006, MMP established a new scholarship fund; a financial investment which provide on-going funds for scholarships for poor but deserving scholars with allowance of P300-500/month. MMP currently supports 123 students as well as 5 seminarians. The current informal dole out scholarship system, which initially arose from Fr. Fernando’s generous support to poor students in his hometown, will eventually be phased out to make way for full scholarships to truly deserving students and seminarians.
Feeding Program
Currently 800+ students are being fed through MMPs feeding programs at Butong Elementary School.
there are lot more projects which too many to highlights it here....
I still believe that this shrine would help our needy kabayans through MMPS projects.
This is the kind of information the thread starter should have used in the first place. I just can't understand why so many simply REFUSE to do some research and insist on condemning Fr. Suarez based on hearsay.
Thanks for the info, sis!
This is such an outrage. Where is the source of funds of this one? 1 billion pesos is just too much for a statue. Yes, am aware there are additional things they want to build but this statue is as overpriced as the lamp posts. Christ the Redeemer in Rio cost only $250k and they placed in where millions can appreciate the statue, making it an icon and symbol of Brazil. Whereas this statue costs so much and will be located in a remote place? This is not even Assissi, Lourdes or Fatima wherein saints lived there. If he has this much money, can't he think of something else better to construct which can benefit more people and can be more useful?
From what little info has been published about this project, one thing is sure. Not many people are going to a small town/city just to see a statue... are they charging a fee? That makes it even more unappealing.
There are Stations of the Cross in Tacloban, they're not even that popular.
I think the shrine features much more than just a statue. There are other facilities which can attract many groups. it does not seem likely that MMPS would have gone ahead with the project without studying the location and their options. I wonder where we can get this info?
The Oratory of the Blessed Virgin Mary includes a Rosary Garden, Stations of the Cross, Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, Saint Joseph Chapel, Divine Mercy Chapel, House of Mary, House of Joseph, Scala Santa, Infant Jesus Chapel, and retreat houses that will serve as a way station for pilgrims, complete with board and lodging, souvenir shops, a conference center and an international center for the poor.
