Exactly. He's part-white, and part-black, which makes the term "African-American" even more appropriate (his father actually went back to Kenya, Africa after 1964). It's just like how an Asian "mestizo" (American Father and a Filipina Mother) can be dubbed an "Asian-American" (even though a "pure" Asian person who has both parents who are Asian, but is of US Citizenship, and/or grew up in the US, can still be called an "Asian-American").

The U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation also categorizes black or African-American people as "A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa" through racial categories used in the UCR Program adopted from the Statistical Policy Handbook (1978 ) and published by the Office of Federal Statistical Policy and Standards, U.S. Department of Commerce derived from the 1977 OMB classification. - Taken from the "Uniform Crime Reporting Handbook", U.S. Department of Justice. Federal Bureau of Investigation (2004).

Under this principle, President Barack Hussein Obama is indeed, an African American.

So what are you driving at?

In the US, half-African is considered black. Lots of blacks in the US actually have some non-African ancestry: One-drop rule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
