Both are good LCDTV for gaming. It really boils down to your budget as the Bravia V series is more expensive than the R81 (Based on Cebu prices) and your preference in design. Both really perform well and is the choice for most console players in the Phils (www.pinoypsx.com).

The important thing to note is to check for dead/stuck pixels before you get one as a good number of those have them. Another thing to note is that both are not FULL HD (though both are capable of upscaling the image to 1080p) and is only 720p native. However, you might ask: "Will the 27" LCD (full hd, viewsonic posted above) give a better picture quality than the V3 or R81?". The answer is NO. It is so because (like what most people say on the net) you will only appreciate full HD if you have an LCD 40/50" and above. So I would definitely sacrifice the resolution for the additional screen size. Just in case you don't know, there are only a handful (that would probably be a small hand as of the moment) of PS3 games that run natively at Full HD. Almost all the games are best played on 720p.

I would like to invite you to our PS3 thread here at Istorya. It would be nice if you would post your PSN ID so that we could add you in our friends list. ---> https://www.istorya.net/forums/index....43489.225.html

I disagree with this statement that you will only appreciated full HD at 40 inches and above....

Some manufacturer's are coming up will full 1080p resolution at a lower screen size.......... in Japan they have 32" LCD with 1080p support.

Perfect example of american culture.... SUPER SIZE it..... well as long as the resolution is there 1920 X 1200.... I don't think the LCD size would matter.... The smallest LCD size that can support 1920 X 1200 resolution is 22" by Lenovo.

The only thing good about 40 inches and above is that your AUDIENCE can see the game while you are playing or if you are watching HD movies you can share it also with everyone.... But if you are just the only one with gaming interest.... I think there is no need to go after size unless you want an audience cheering you to see the game....

In 2 player mode definitely you need a larger screen since you will split it in half......

although most games are still 720p.... looking at the future they will surely come up with 1080p games....

I guess that's your opinion. I respect that. But I would just like to say that what I posted isn't made up or something. I read lots of threads on the internet stating about it.

    From: http://news.digitaltrends.com/talkback207.html
Eyesight is ultimately what mocks the Full HD hype. Even if you have 20/20 vision, your eyes can’t distinguish the pixel size of 1080p vs. 720p on screens of 42 inches or less. Even at 50 inches, the difference is debatable. Up at 70 inches, you may see differences—but even then, things like video artifacts, video noise, and the limits of source material (whether HD or not) take their toll.

    From: http://hometheater.about.com/od/tele...80ppitfall.htm
Although 1080p has several faces, as a consumer, don't let this confuse you. If you are considering the purchase of an HDTV smaller than 40-inches, the actual visual difference between the three main high definition resolutuions, 1080p, 1080i, and 720p are minimal if noticable at all.

The larger the screen size, the more noticable the difference between 1080p and other resolutions. If you are considering a purchase of an HDTV with a screen size of 40-inches or larger, go for 1080p if you can afford it, and also consider a set that has 1080p/24 capability.

In truth, most people will have a hard time distinguishing between a 1080p HDTV and one with lower resolution (typically 1,280x720 or 1,366x76 regardless of the source quality or even the screen size.

    From: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10166_7-6671448-1.html
But if you want the best you can get today, and you don't mind paying more for it, then you should probably consider going 1080p. That's especially true if you're getting a very large HDTV, say 56 inches and up, or if you plan to sit relatively close to the screen, say 1.5 to 2 times the diagonal measurement.

    From: http://blog.hometheatermag.com/geoff...0806more1080p/
From where most people sit, you don't need 1080p in a 37-42 inch TV. It's arguable that you do in a 50-inch set. The key, then, is moving your seating. If you're sitting more than 5x the picture height away from your TV, then you probably don't need 1080p. If you can move closer, you should get the highest resolution display you can, sit close enough that you can't see the pixels, and enjoy your huge screen.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying that 1080p is useless. I just want to stress out that based on the numerous sites I've read (not only these posted above), the chance of you noticing any difference or actually appreciating 1080p resolution is slim if you have a small LCDTV.

Buying 1080p TVs will make your appliance future-proof though and you will most likely benefit from BD movies.

Note: We're discussing about LCD TVs and its use with PS3 (as the thread started stated) and not about LCDs in general.

I am just showing the person that he can hit 2 birds with one stone. LCD for Pc use and LCD TV and future proofing....

we can argue all day about 720p 1080i 1080p...... Again it all boils down to the screen resolution 1920 x 1200 for the viewsonic.... full HD LCD TVs come at 1920 x 1080.

When games would come out for 1080p you don't need to get a new display

With blu-ray drives getting available to the pc.... the viewsonic will be able to show its worth... as for the PS3... again if you play it all by yourself... the Viewsonic would be good enough..... if you want people to watch your game go for 40 inches or higher...

Note: I don't sell LCD monitors or LCD TV.

but this Viewsonic model is quite tempting.... of course if you want the best go for the Apple cinema display 30"

Lol. All I want to say is that you won't notice the difference if you use a small screen esp if its only for PS3. Besides, if 1920x1200 is the native resolution of the LCD then the PS3 will only force the resolution down to 1080p 'coz its the highest resolution it supports. I'm not sure about this LCD but if I'm not mistaken an LCD Monitor's strength is with its native resolution and anything below won't be that clear.

Nwy, Enough with this issue. We've posted our sides and lets just concentrate on helping this guy (thread starter) out.

As long as it can support 1080p...

because if you buy 720p LCD TV now and in the future the contents move to 1080p.... do you buy again another display

As I said we can argue all day on 720p 1080i 1080p... there is difference or there is no difference.... thats debatable..... small screen size vs. big screen size...
