your best option would be is to work offshore. ask your employer if you can relocate here. with that you can get the best of both worlds. you are getting a high paying job while spending it here where the cost of living is low. and the women of course...

@vern, 1k USD is enough for you to stay in Cebu City, provided that you are already have home to stay, but for most of us here in Cebu city that amount is already more than enough for a single or married with kids.

5 years ago my work in Cebu city is more on technical part like in Network/System but my earnings still not enough to sustain the needs of my family, during that time they offered me less than 40k PHP. So i decided to moved and look for better opportunity.

Since you are curious visit Cebu City again and observe , some says that cost of living in Cebu is cheaper compared to USA/CANADA.

earning 350kphp or 7k usd / per month in western countries like Canada and USA is the same as earning of 80k php in a higher IT position in the Philippines , considering both lifestyle are the same.

I wonder how much tax is deducted of that 7k USD per month in the US.

this is why most BPO companies abroad loves to invest in the Philippines because the labor is cheap. getting a range of 300k+ would defeat the purpose of outsourcing. so whenever there are employees from Cebu ranks up to the highest, they always go abroad to reach bigger salary.

I have been doing IT for some time now in various settings from the US Military to currently, education. I currently make around 350k a month when converted to pesos, but would be able to make more in more metropolitan areas of the US. That is without benefits included. With benefits, it would probably be close to 500k a month. Are salaries like this even achievable outside of executive, management positions in the Philippines?

What is the cost of living in the Philippines? Particularly Cebu? Can IT workers in Cebu afford a better than comfortable life? ... or just barely getting by?

    Much thanks!
if you are single, earning around 50-60k/month (after deductions), You will be able to get your own studio condo unit, a sub-compact sedan and occasionally eat at restaurants. What kind of comfortable life do you mean Vern? YOu can actually earn 20k and still live a more than comfortable life here. For me, I don't need to buy a car to say that i am living a comfortable life. It really boils down on how you see life. Most senior technical positions here would pay around 40-80k.
