sound quality is subjective. It is dependent on the response of the listener. Each and every person has different taste when it comes to sound.
One scenario is this. Scratch metal to metal. Others consider the sound of this unbearable while others consider it as just but a grinding sound of two metals.
My point here is that, you are the one who would be listening to the sound/music and not us. Maybe some of us would suggest you get a sound card because for us, it gives quality sound reproduction. Others would just insist on the built-in sound chip of the motherboard because they already found satisfaction in it.
Way back in the Pentium 3 era. All I have is a built-in. I designed a 12 band graphic equalizer, crossover network and 50W RMS per channel amplifier. Built a 50W RMS subwoofer (secured by 4 mason bolts on the floor). Believe me, playing Starcraft those days is really breathtaking. Feels like you are right there in the frontline of the battlefield. The crackling explosion and heavy pounding done by terran seige tanks could even dislodge the glass on top of my computer table.
Bottomline, as what catch had said, let the computer shops demo the cards for you and compare the results. Only you knows which is the best sound quality for you.
Better sound chip/card + better speaker system = listening experience!!
"demo between cards"
yah, that was what i really wanted to do becoz i dont want to end up buying unya dili ko makakita ug dako kaayo nga difference in performance. coz maybe sa uban tawo, dako kaayo difference dayun sa ako maybe gamay ra as what tamblot explained.
what im expecting from the store im buying is that order basis tingali ni nga item so if order basis dili jud matestingan ky once ma order, kinahanglan paliton jud.
try nalang nako ug ask didto if naa sila stock and if naa mu test ko, pero most probably mura order basis jud ni. coz usually basta mga enthusiast items i-order basis raman sa ako palalitan na store.
anyway, december papud ko mupalit ani, timing sa bonus. if dili judko maka testing, musalig nalang ko sa ngalan nga creative ang brand niya.. musalig nalang ko nga maayo jud ky creative man.
basta 6 channel ok na kaayo na
yup, 6 channel jud ako gipangita ky 6 channel man ako gamit nga speakers.
also consider acoustics when using 6 channels. There is a computation for the speaker distances from the listener location in order to totally reproduce a true surround speaker system.
Front, middle and rear speakers should be located correctly otherwise, the sound wont sync with the video you are watching. For the subwoofer, It's low frequency so you can place it anywhere. I have a friend before that he placed the subwoofer underneath the sofa where he is sitting. Nice!!!
i'm planning to buy a sound card also, but i'm having second thoughts...i've done a lot of research and based on what i've read from forums, improvements in sound quality is really subjective...the only constant advantage that is kept being said is that it slightly improves cpu perfomance (and by "slightly" i mean almost or totally negligible)...another thing that most people say is that sound quality nowadays with the built-in HD audio is almost comparable to that with using sound cards..i say "almost" because they say that there are times when sound quality is similar and sometimes one would surpass the other...i've even read some people say that they used their built in HD audio instead of their sound cards because they liked the quality of their built in audio better or that they did not get what they expected from their soundcard...
One thing also guys, remember that excellent listening experience starts from the source. There is no use buying expensive 6 channel sound card and earth pounding surround speakers when all you just have to do is to play a 20-in-1 DVD from sidewalks.
ahh thanx, i didn't know that. at least krn kabalo na ko sa importance sa advantages sa dedicated sound card aside from improved audio qualityOriginally Posted by vladmire
btw, instead of altec lansing, naa koy alternative. gi uslan nako ang 2 x 200w speakers sa akng erpat (dunno the brand, mga 1k+ lng man iyang palit ato), amplifier, subwoofer. gipaslak lng nako ang audio output sa amplifier (gigamitan og splitter kang L-R ambot unsay tawag ana) den *boom*. murag tibook kalsada namo ang nakadungog nagduwa og need for speed 2. pwede pa gyud nimo magamit pang parties..bungog kau ang sounds haha.
mga 5-7k sad daw ang gasto sa akng erpat ato..hilig man sad gud to cyag banda2x. tiguwang na rockers ;p pero naa sad to cyay altec lansing sa iyang opis..ambot para asa dli man sad to cya pde magpakusog og tukar did2. ahak mas nindot gyud to cyag PC nako pirme
fyi: most of the speakers and amplifiers sold in colon is almost the same quality w/ high-end brands... unless you got a super sensitive ear
