Using this type of sponge will cause marring or swirl marks on your car's paint. If you should use sponge, use the one with big pores that can lift the contaminants away from the paint. I suggest that you use a good quality washmitt.

@*ICY* maybe the one they are talking about is the cellulose sponge...which is rough.. this type is an egg foam, foam.. i will only use the egg crate like side only.. it's like only the nipples are touching the paint... if it catches dirt, there's still some space on that concave are or bigger than the holes... and besides whatever good washmit you will use and you wash it up and down, may collect some dirt/sand from below>= scratch...

I prefer to not or never use sponges for removing dirt during washing. why? sponges tend to DRAG dirt or particles which will cause damage. A washmitt will lift it since it is microfiber. And modern paint has a clear coat that is scratch sensitive.

For tire black any would do but a dedicated tire dressing is preferred since chemicals will or might brittle the compound in the tire. But coke my be a good tire and wheel cleaning hehehhe

True. 2 bucket system and a good quality MF towels are also a must to avoid paint swirling/marring.

yup. Microfiber mitts are needed but expensive though naa man cheaper MF mitts though proper washing of it to maintain the charge is needed. For drying a good quality cloth chamois or a water magnet is best.

Anyone like detailing their own engine?

Yes. I do. 2x a year. Engine degreaser, rinse, wash, rinse then dry. Some people apply spray wax on the engine but i dont do it because i want a matte finish engine.
