Does Mactan island have cultureor cultural value?

I always heard it from the foreigners. I witness it myself. Mactan island has no cultural value. Our culture in Mactan island only goes as far as the memorial of magellan and the statue of Lapu-Lapu. After that its *** tours and lamp post. Right? if only we can sense and realize how lucky we are living in Cebu specially Mactan island. How this small island full of history can do more than *** tours ( and japanese xxx filmaking ) can do for its inhabitants. Its history is vastly rich. You can read it in local as well as international books, specially with the name of Magellan on it. The island is related to the earliest naval navigation of history.

It seems that the ones giving importance to the island are foreigners and other not living in the island. Lapu-Lapu itself has already been the subject of some PC games, animations, movies etc., But not at the expence of the Lapu-lapu City government. Alright we dont have to literally invest monetary, but perhaps the government there should try to see its real value. There is no cultural direction. Its been sub-cultured!

I have talk to an travel agency owner in Boracay, and he tells me that mactan Island is know for its *** tours. Its true! we know its true. Does mactan Island really has a cultural value or cultural direction?

talking about culture and *** aside... seriously it's not only a mactan issue. the philippines as a whole no longer posses a unique culture. sa man ato culture na mura naman ta ug mga westerners culture wise. unlike india and thailand, japan and china na rich kaayo culture wise and they value and they're proud of their culture. kita pinoy all we want is to be americano in every way.

I agree with fingolf and shoeless. I think we got the point here. I think thats the idea the threader wants us to see. For me personaly cultural value should be worked more. Some of the you might think that, why complain? about the negative image about Lapu-Lapu City? Or why not work together with some departments to perserve the natural invironment? i agree with that 100%

This area here that the threader is as you might say is complaining about is one of the areas that also needs to be address. We also need to be aware.

Sometimes reality hurts, it bites...so why compalin about people who complain about the negative image of mactan ? or other island?

.. hehehe.. yeah, the ***-thing. the bars. the Ho-s. Seriously, you could ask any random person to what mactan is associated with, for sure they will answer - THE BARS. or BEACHES. It's kinda sad if their first answer is the ***-trade. Try and ask taxi drivers to which bars are the best for sure you'll get an answer of ADTO SA MACTAN DAGHAN NINDOT DIDTO. But sadly, that's what people think about mactan. I'm sure it's mayor is trying it's best to change that image. Well, there was this one time when mactan was called MEPZ island. But it soon evaporated.

But please dont ask your 9 year old sister she so young to see the really. Its the point here. A beautiful island full of culture, sadly now its full of bars...

yeah they can say Cebu has the same thing, more bars, more whores, manila,davao etc...but aint were talking about mactan Island here ?

Mactan Island has lot of potential to become like HK if run properly by their political leaders. Culture I believe they have plenty of it although its being over shadowed by the business potential of the island including *** trade of course.

Also i think ( personaly) the bad image of Mactan will not be erase exept the Government there is really serious about some things. I think the point of this discussion is how to overshadow the bad image of Mactan island. It is very sad to know those things.

How to over come this negative image is more of an option not a direction. Because if you can see the direction now, is going to downward spiral. Thre is a saying " if you find your self in a hole, then stop digging"

Maybe the government of Mactan should consider this....
