I respect other istoryan's comment on this thread; however, I'd like to give my insights for @pau-pau 's perusal.

Hey, I've seen an offer for a credit card. I must grab it, shouldn't I?
    - Well, the answer totally depends in you, TS. Why? I am a pro-credit card user because I know how I use my card. Yes, issues like "Urge for wants" may occur every now and then, but then again, it all boils down on who you really are, and how you play with money.

I recently had an encounter where I really want to buy an MI3 phone from Xiaomi. It's a really affordable one, and it's a beast. But, before I pulled out my card in my wallet, I said to myself: "Do I really need this?". My answer was a big "NO". I have a working phone, though not perfect for gaming, but sufficient enough to not bore me on a lousy day. So, I didn't make the purchase.

Okay, I might get one! However, do you think I can think logically when the "Urge" comes?
    - How do you handle your finances at this point? Do you have any outstanding debts? If you have any, then probably a card isn't for you; however, if you are crystal clear and probably have some extra cash in the bank, then you are in the right track. This will probably mean that you know how to differentiate your wants from needs.

You are right! So, what do you think I must do to get a card?
    - Don't be a call center agent . I am an agent and I get a lot of frowning faces because they don't cater to agents anymore; unless of course if you have an existing card (which I firmly believe is a ridiculous move), then they will be walking straight to you with smiles from their left to right ear, ready to present their proposal. Sigh!

I am an agent! Armagerds, so you mean I don't have an option now?
    - Whoa, hold your horses! Don't be too excited . Didn't I just said I have a card? and that I am an agent? Yeah right, I know. So, how did I got mine?

I checked my bestfriend Google and he told me that you just need to start with a Secured Credit Card. These cards are provided by banks to clients who want a credit card but either don't have the documents to prove their capability to pay, or for those with jobs that these banks are frowning upon.

Interesting! Tell me more about it.
    - It's pretty simple really. From the word "Secure", it means you need to deposit a certain amount to the bank when applying for a secured credit card. Then, depending on the bank's policy, you will either get an 80%, 90%, or 100% credit limit out of your deposited amount.

Whatttt?? I have to shell out some cash to the bank, so they can let me borrow these afterwards? That's ridiculous!!
    - I know right! But, don't worry, you don't have to have the secured card forever. The good news is, once you've proven your capability to pay your bills on time, you may request for a retention of card and release of the hold amount. Which means, you can get your money back in full, and your secured credit card will now be an unsecured/regular card. Fair enough?

Oh! I see. Now that makes sense. Therefore, if I don't pay my debts, they will get my saved cash as payment, do they?
    - Indeed! I am sure you won't let them keep your hard-earned cash for good, will you?

I am really gonna get one! Who should I talk to?
    - All banks except BDO. As far as I know, BDO don't offer secured CC's anymore. Metrobank, BPI, RCBC, Eastwest, etc. You can get one from them.

Any questions? None? Good! I have to go now kay gutom na hahaha. Peace yow!

    No worries. Recollection jud?

Be honest to yourself and decide. Sometimes, you will never know the answer until you know it. So, the easiest way is to give it a shot.
