Players named to the USA Basketball Select Team ( Second Squad ) include:

Aaron Brooks (Houston Rockets)
Monta Ellis (Golden State Warriors)
Channing Frye (Portland Trail Blazers)
Jeff Green (Seattle SuperSonics)
Devin Harris (Dallas Mavericks)
Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia 76ers)
Al Jefferson (Minnesota Timberwolves)
Jason Kapono (Toronto Raptors)
David Lee (New York Knicks).

Portland's Brandon Roy was rumored to also be in the mix, but had a prior engagement.

USA Basketball Selected team that will be coached by new Seattle head coach P.J. Carlesimo.

Basically this select group are players that would give the SENIOR NATIONAL SQUAD the best possible opportunity to prepare for the FIBA Americas Championship...

Maybe USA should give their Olympics aspiring team the best match in the scrimmages. Say match them up with guys like Kevin Garnett, Rasheed Wallace and Tim Duncan.

Chicago guard Kirk Hinrich and Houston forward Shane Battier has withdrawn from the team while Seattle forward Nick Collison was filled in for the void. USA Team has currently 16 names in the rosters which will be trimmed down to 12 soon. Among the names speculated to be cut are among JJ Redick (Orlando), Kevin Durant (Seattle), Nick Collison (Seattle), Michael Redd (Milwaukee), Mike Miller (Memphis) and Tayshaun Prince (Detroit).

Kobe Bryant could be a probable starter for the team along with Jason Kidd at point guard and LeBron James at forward and possibly Dwight Howard and Carmelo Anthony.

I think the author means that will TEAM USA finally win it all this coming Olympics?

For me, that depends on the following :

1. Unless Kobe Bryant doesn't do anything stupid like trying to score 81 points in a game in the
Olympics.
2. U.S. must get past the four major teams in the Olympics : Argentina, Spain, Greece and France.
3. Unless Kobe and Melo does not get into a scoring contest against each other...
4. Teamwork...

hahahaha why always point to kobe? if he scored 81 pts on each game and they win it all.. would you think that's stupid? and during their vegas try out melo was the only consistent player whose AGGRESSIVE enough to bring the ball closer to the rim.. and if he tries to do that in japan or in the beijing olympics.. wouldn't that be good for team USA even if you think that's stupid?

I really wonder what's with Nick Collison. He's dubbed as "Mr. USA Basketball" because he's been into any USA Basketball Team that competes internationally every year since his high school days in 1997.

Is this the reason why he's the one inserted for Hinrich and Battier because he's the face of USA Basketball?

USA Men's senior team lost to the scrimmage against the USA Select Team composed of selected NBA players. Team USA won the first and second quarters before losing the third, fourth and the overtime. The reason for the loss? USA's inconsistent outside shooting, the same woes that brought them down the previous international tournament. Team USA had troubles shooting against the other team's zone defense. Even Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony has been shooting miserably. Among the Team USA players, only Michael Redd and Mike Miller were able to shoot the ball better, both are noted shooters anyway.

If Team USA will continue to have these problems come the FIBA qualifiers, they'll be lucky enough to get past Brazil or Argentina. These teams play the zone defense to perfection.
