Its most probably a psu issue. One thing though, even though his mobo supports 1600 ram and above, @ stock an i3 540 will only allow a 1:10 ratio. Only K processors will allow a 1:12 ram ratio. To be able to attain 1866 ram clocks, he has to run at 187 bclk, which is a walk in the park for a 540. One thing that might have been preventing 2 sticks running both at a time is the DMI. He might have to back it down when running anything above 187bclk.
But before trying again, just get a decent cpu. Nasa huli ang pagsisisi.

@AcidSuicide my seasonic is already sold bro.

Hmm...if memory serves me right it's currently at 177bclk and at that bclk i got 4.07 ghz, is that ok? I mean pc is running fine although the occasional hangs kay mag overheat ang GPU(old trusty GT240) but still, i guess it's fine.

But before trying again, just get a decent cpu. Nasa huli ang pagsisisi.
I'm experimenting with this i3 lng sa to get me started on overclocking. Will get a more decent cpu next year i suppose if I do destroy this one hehe...but hey, this processor is an aging warrior and if it's going to go down why not go down fighting di ba? If i'm lucky i wont destroy the other parts in the process and just transfer them over to my next build.

So i guess we all have the same conclusions then, new psu it is. Now to find a decent one at my price. Suggestions? Recommendations? Thanks daan.

Since you are overclocking, I strongly suggest you get a psu with the cleanest output, lowest ripple, a single rail with the most robust 12v rating possible. It doesnt necessarily have to be of high wattage or efficiency though a gold psu would be nice, dili lang gyud madala sa budget. With that, I recommend the Seasonic M12II 620 @ 3.8K.

Nice, just googled it and I like that sli or Xfire ready siya, of course most branded psu nowadays would be. Could be useful for a future build too. Any idea where i can buy it here in the city? Of course I wouldn't mind scouring the city for it, sounds like fun, but a headstart would be appreciated. Thanks daan.

So I was finally able to utilize two sticks of 4gb ram and it turns that we were right, generic psu ang problem. So thanks to all of you who advised me with this. By the way I just bought a 500w silverstone strider plus modular. I couldn't find the recommended psu seasonic brand here in cebu so I opted for silverstone instead. To anyone who might have this same problem hope this thread could help them out.
