There are fan guards included with my fan. I used contact cement to mount the stockings.

I changed to scotch brite now. it has better air flow and same filtering capability than stockings.

Scotch brite does'nt have that ease of airflow cause its thick.
You try to stick it directly to the fan thats why it would get tangled up.

Wow, contact cement really are tough, its way too adhesive
    for its puyrpose.

I use 1/8" scotch brite. My fans are less choked as compared to stockings.

@Tamblot: air flow reduction is ~50% for 2 layers of fiberfil, much lesser if only 1 layer is used. this is why i used powerful fans for intake (2 tt smartfans at full speed). at first when i didn't mind the noise, ok lang but when i connected my pc to my ht system, it was a different story. i'm currently using uv fan filters sold at arctech (maybe the same as the ones bought by koto). got 1 each for my 3 intake fans. changed my fans to cooler master ones and now i can listen to soft music better. fwiw, with my old fan config, my pc was almost as loud as a vacuum cleaner (i couldn't sleep with it on).

    * to lessen the noise, keep the fan as far as you can from the filter (e.g. using a fan duct). that way, the fan can "breathe" better

@brown_dog: i didn't stick the stockings to the fan filter. instead, i made a small contraption using illustration board and used instant glue (mighty bond but i think any brand will do) to attach a stretched portion of stocking to it. i then trimmed off the extra stocking and finally attached the whole thing to the front of the fan grill using double-sided tape.

@brown_dog: the brand is fiberfil bro. and don't make the same mistake i made... don't buy the 3m air filter unless you plan to use it on your air conditioning unit. way too expensive for our purpose. the fiberfil material is blue on one side and white on the other. you can buy it at ace hardware in sm.
