I heard my father told me stories about hearing mass in Latin when he was very young. The priests do not face the public. He also said his grandma is a "manabtan", who lead latin prayers. These prayers are said to have been verbally passed on to her. My father remembered her grandma to be very pious and prayerful while inside the church, but a different person outside.

When he asked her the meaning of those latin words, she simply could not tell.Â* His own research lead him to identify those prayers as psalms, "the Lord's prayer", creeds, etc..

As to pandisal, I bet we just have to educate him and the rest about the richness of our faith.Â* Thats why I never transferred to born again groups.Â* Aside from doctrinal issues, I will miss tridentine mass which will never ever will happen in protestant churches or groups.

to tell you the truth, i'm a born catholic too... but I guess not that religous like you guys. I happen to go to church not just catholic church but also the so called born again and also seven'th day adventist church but I have no preference, only thing I need is a peace w/ God not prefering what or how they do their sunday or 'say, saturday mass...

as for the latin mass, never experience this, that's why i'm not familiar with it... just heard or watch pope giving mass

Today, Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X met with the Holy Father Benedict XVI at his residence of Castelgandolfo. At the conclusion of the audience, he [Bishop Fellay] made the following declaration:

The meeting lasted about thirty-five minutes; it took place in an atmosphere of calm.

The audiences was an opportunity for the Society to manifest that it has always been attached �and always will be �to the Holy See, Eternal Rome.

We broached the serious difficulties, already known, in a spirit of great love for the Church.

We reached a consensus as to proceeding by stages in the resolution of problems.

The Society of Saint Pius X prays that the Holy Father might find the strength to put an end to the crisis in the Church by "restoring all things in Christ."

Oh, there's a whole lot more riches Mother Church has in store for us than that, young brother in Christ. For example, do you know that the dominant Roman Rite (a rite is the order or design of the liturgy or mass we hear) is only one of the sub-rites of the Latin or Western Rite Church of the Catholic Church? Yes, there are sub-rites of the Latin Rite like the Ambrosian and the Benedictine Rite. I may be wrong but I think that The Tridentine and the Novus Ordu are either also sub-rites of the Latin Rite or two different versions of the Roman Rite.

By the way, the Latin or Western Rite Church is not alone in the Catholic Church. There is the Eastern Rite Church, which is composed of 21 different churches like the Byzantine, Chaldean and Ukrainian churches. Of course, they are also in union with the Pope. Each of these Eastern Church have their own rites as well (perhaps even sub-rites within those rites). The pope, being the Universal Pontiff of the Catholic Church, enjoys the privilege of celebrating Holy Mass in any of the sub-rites of any of the rites in both the Latin or Western Rite and the Eastern Rite churches.

In total, there are 22 churches that make up the Catholic Church. 21 churches of the Eastern Rite Church and one Latin or Western Rite Church-- but the dominant one, of which the Roman Rite is the dominant among its rites. Its proper to say that, for example, Filipino Catholics, who practically all belong to the Roman Rite of the Latin or Western Rite Church, are Latin Rite Catholics.

P.S. The Eastern Rite Church should not be confused, as is almost always the case, with the Eastern Orthodox Church, which is also composed of several churches. The Eastern Orthodox Church are part of the Catholic Church because it is not in union with the Pope.

Yeah, Hounded. And this Eastern Rite Churches are known as "uniates" because they are in union with Rome or they recognize the Pope.

Dont forget too that there is a rite which is celebrated in Arabic. This is the Assyrian Rite which is based in Syria. I guess the Chaldean Rite which is based in Iraq is also celebrated in Arabic.

Thats how universal the Catholic Church is.

Bai makatawa lagi ko sa imong batasan bai... you are promoting and a very strong catholic defender and i admire you for that and on your position on your views but it seems that... you are not asking for a respect from others.

You are not convincing us that much... coz you see... kung mo respeto ang taw bai chances are... it's either they will follow you or not... depende na bai.. but you dont have to assert your thoughts and sometimes you speak in a degrading way.

I hope you understand bai... just a suggestion hinay2 lang... you will be better off if you are i think in a more defensive mode rather than lighting up the conversation and setting everything on fire.

I am somewhat moved by your assertion of respect for s.n.m.p.'s opinion, moved enough to believe that you are not engaging in some sort of rhetorical questioning.

However, s.n.m.p. is right in pointing out that non-Catholics would find it extremely difficult to understand the Latin or Tridentine Mass. Heck, a lot of Catholics who got used to or grew up hearing only the Novus Ordu (like me) share the same difficulty somewhat. You see, pandisal, if you are a Catholic who reads the Bible, especially New Testament, the language won't bother you as much-- that is, if you are such a Catholic. Put it this way, it's like watching Mel Gibson's film "The Passion of the Christ"; we are so familiar with the story so much removing the subtitles won't even bother us the same bit. The Latin or Tridentine mass you see has far such reverence and solemnity and piety compared to the Novus Ordu, through and through. This is why there some Catholics who prefer the Tridentine.

Um, s.n.m.p., was the Tridentine Rite ever translated to the Visayan dialect, like the Novus Ordu? I once heard a mass at Capitol Parish Church where the entire Eucharistic Prayer was spoken in Latin, was that the Tridentine?

But again, to a non-Catholic, particularly an anti-Catholic, (and I'm in no way alleging that you are any of these) who gets so indignant at the sight of Catholics kneeling during Mass, it will be extremely difficult to understand the Tridentine, much less tolerate, even lesser accept.

Ayaw pag bout unsa ako gusto. You are not Catholic anyway.Â* Even if it is Latin it still the same.Â* I want latin mass because I am a traditionalist.Â* Preference ra na magdaug.Â*

I want a solemn mass but I dont say we should also abolish the vernacular mass.Â* I just hope at least on mass in Sunday should be i latin as a variation and for trditionalist like me.Â* Â*

To be honest and fair, I have to admit to both motives, actually-- dialogue and evangelization. Oh, and I guess you could also say apologetics, too.
