Three things:
1. Time - is he spending more quality time with you and your concern?
2. Effort - is he exerting a great deal of effort?
3. Intention - this is very important. you need to know his real intention truly. Define this "seriousness"! For I may spend a great deal of time and effort with you because I am merely looking forward to get you to bed. Thus, I'm "dead serious" in getting onto bed with you. Afterwhich, what's there to be serious with? Know your guy.
