sometimes if your already famous in the industry editors mo doul nimo, but for my case when i decided to make photography as a profession i compile my 20 best pictures into my 11x14 portfolio book, and wrote a letter to magazine editors. so far they gave me chance to shoot with them. One of the most Challenging is applying in Summit Media (FHM, Mens Health, OK, Candy, etc..)

Yes We do get paid in Magazine but not so well.
for example Expat Magazine pay me the lowest but i can get the pay check the day after the magazine launch. And i can get more international exposure bec. the magazine is circulated in southeast asia and all the Country with Phil. Diplomatic Relation.

Sunstar, Most of the time they dont pay! but the one i posted is a paid shoot from company of Neil Felipe San Pedro Fashion Accessory Designer from Itel Karat (former Suarez Rings) Sunstar is good enough exposure here in Cebu.

Summit Media pay me the highest but they are one of the longest to pay, it might take 3months to 12months!! B4 you can get the check. The Exposure is huge with Summit Media, This is where some Industry Pro Photog made it big like Xander Angeles, Doc Marlon, Jay Tablante and our very own Cebuano Photographer & Friend of mine Charles Buenconsejo.

Monday Magazine is my Favorite of all the publication even though they are still new. the pay is right/ok. the people that i work with is very cool and professional. plus i can get the pay check every Friday or after 7days from the shoot. The Exposure for this Magazine is more in the Artist, Designer and Creative Scene this magazine is more into lifestyle of the Creative and Media Industry just the way i like to be.

The Reason that magazine pays like Peanut is bec. Editors and Publishers know that they are giving Free Exposure to the Photog, Stylist, MUA, Prod. and Models. Some Pay really low like you can not even justify the cost of your skill + effort + gears + time. And some are just enough to pay the cost of living and your bills.

If you really wanna know the RATE enroll in my workshop or 1on1 tutorial and ill tell you the industry secret in Publishing, Advertising, and Commercial Photography.

Being a Hobbyist is more Fun than Pro. Trust me on this. If you can Find a way to make more money then stick with it and just enjoy being a hobbyist. Lots of my IT friends in Manila and Singapore want to shift into Photography as a profession but i tell them to think it over a year before jumping the cliff. If you know your good at Photography and you know how to make money from it then try. But if you know your level still cant compete with the Pro then dont try it you might end up regretting and hating Photography.
