Artist Makes Skull Out of US Money

Scott Campbell is an unusual artist - in his latest work he used dollar bills to make an original sculpture.

With the help of lasers and dollars, the former tattoo artist made a skull, which is, by the way, the most asked for tattoo.

In his work, Campbell brought the 2D image of a skull intro three dimensions and presented the skull made of unused US currency at the Oh Wow art gallery in Los Angeles, where he opened his Noblesse Oblige exhibit.

The artist used sheet of American money with a total value of $11,000 to make a 2-foot cube and then carved a skull out of it.

His work may lead us to the though of how arbitrary money can seem.

Chinese Workers Use Scrap Metal to Accurately Recreate the Megatron Tank from Transformers 2

Engineers from Wing Wah, a factory in China, decided to recreate one of the mega-machines from the blockbuster movie Transformers.

Designers Jiang Chen and Yang Junlin, who already became popular after presenting their "Legend of Iron" project that depicts a series of big metal sculptures, have presented their latest work.

The new sculpture is an accurate recreation of the Megatron Tank from Transformers 2.

The work is made mostly from scrap metal. The tank measures 4.5 x 3.2 x 2.5 meters and weights 5 tons.

It is worth mentioning that Wing Wah, headed by Junlin, is the first metal crafts factory in Huizhou, China.

The authors of the 5-ton steel Megatron tank have recently unveiled their whole army of transformers, some of which look exactly like the one in the movie, while others are simply great.

Their large collection of huge robots includes both Autobots and Decepticons.

All of their works are part of a project called "Legend of Iron" and all are made of scrap metal. Jiang Chen and Yang Junlin, work as engineers at Wing Wah, which is the first metal crafts factory in Huizhou, China.

Artist Uses Old Paper Money to Make Trees

Maximo Gonzalez is an Argentinean artist, now living in Mexico City, who uses old banknotes to create beautiful trees with roots, leaves and fruits.

A lot of his works can be seen at Artane Art Gallery in Istanbul. The gallery, entitled "Something Like An Answer To Something," will be opened until May 28.

According to a Turkish newspaper Today's Zaman, the artist became very popular thanks to his works that are based on the idea of "reutilization."

"The materials I use have their own stories," says Gonzalez. "I recycle all these materials and ideas and build a new concept, a new language, to express new ideas and, finally, new reflections," he added.

Gonzalez can also boast works based on politics. These works are made of curriculum materials and political propaganda items, such as those used during South American dictatorships.

"Project for the Reutilization of Obsolete Vehicles after the Extinction of Petrol" represents a series of his works that illustrate the shells of boats, motor homes, pick-up trucks, and military equipment that are used to grow different fruits and vegetables.

The artist explains: "The idea of reutilization here is that one day the oil will all be consumed. What will happen to all these vehicles? I offer to use these vehicles as flower pots to repair all the damage we caused in nature."

Artist Makes Large Portraits from Wine Corks

A very talented artist managed to draw a beautiful portrait using nothing but repurposed wine corks. Scott Gundersen from Chicago gathers and stores wine corks in his studio, where one can observe thousands of examples of corks boasting hundreds of colors and shades.

It would be interesting to note that the corks are accurately separated by tone and color.

The first step in making a portrait involves taking a large photograph of the artist's subject. Then Gundersen uses the picture as a reference to draw the face of the subject with a pencil on a larger paper format.

As soon as the artist finished the shading and contouring, he starts the next phase - enriching the portrait with corks. Because the corks are divided according to their tone, the artist is able to quickly determine the corks he intends to use in a certain location of the portrait - the face features lighter corks, the neck and hair somewhat darker tones.

One of his latest works is a huge portrait of "Grace" that measures 96 x 66 inches. It took the artist 50 hours and 9,217 corks to make it.

It is worth mentioning that through his works Gundersen wants to focus people's attention to the importance of recycling.
