50% faster is NOTHING even remotely impressive as it has 4 more physical cores, this means w/o the extra cores or in gaming the Bulldozer is just as fast as the Q9650 which is pretty lame.

Thats where your wrong if you look at the low end and mid range i3/i5 they offer better performance than AMD processors at the same or a tad bit higher price level. But then again its really upto the buyer.

IMHO, AMD is not really more affordable, Intel also has processors at the 3-4k price range.

of course they are "forced" to go quad-channel coz they will not be able to feed the 4-modules/8 cores processors using dual channel w/out bottlenecks...having said that these Bulldozer -based server chips have new sockets since its would be impossible for them to fit them on a 940-pin AM3...
