as what i've observed, most anime DVD-rippers use MKV or OGM as their container format of choice since these containers can support soft subs (like SRT and SSA) as well as multiple audio tracks. tho AVI can support the latter, stream switching is quite buggy.

but in most fansubs (those doing TV caps) where translations are hardsubbed and there's only 1 audio stream, AVI is still widely used

Found my Anime List. Wala na nako gi-update. Hate trading na. Pagverify nako sa mga files nga ka-trade nako, dili mo-pass sa file verification from the Anime Sub groups that released them which means some data were modified during the numberous recopies without verification files.

same sentiments here. it's always good to keep the SFV files. some fansubs even include the CRC32 checksum of each episode in the filename, which IMHO, is a very good idea (backup in case the SFV file gets corrupted)

both DVD-9 and DVD-5 are physical structures for DVD recordable media. DVD-9 is single-sided, dual-layered (SS/DL) while DVD-5 is single-sided, single-layered (SS/SL). there's also DVD-10 which is double-sided, single-layered (DS/SL) and is mostly found on DVD-Videos which contain both widescreen and fullscreen versions of a movie. it requires flipping the disc to access the next side.

cooldude: nero bwahahaha. some people do a combination of both nero's verfiication and sfv to be double sure. but im already contented with nero's alone
