You're forgetting something that, regardless if you can swim or not, can KILL you--debris, flotsam/jetsam. Imagine being an able swimmer, feeling good that you can swim around the tsunami and then suddenly without warning...TSCHAK! A sharp floating PVC pole spears through your eye...you're dead.

Simple lesson-stay out of the water. If you're caught in the water, your only hope is NOT to get hit by debris, if assuming you can swim.
