dns server is required for ur computer to get data from the internet since they are the once who identify the ip equivalent domain name like for example f u request yahoo.com in ur browser the domain server will look for the exact ip equivalent to dat request then if he founds it then it will then send it to ur explorer.

wen u subscribed to an internet service provider normally they will give u public IP, gateway + dns.

if u plan to share the internet using dhcp easy na sya since the dns will be automatically configured

if manual then u gotta add it manually too for example imo lan ip range is 192.168.0.0

then sa imo pc one imo ip will be

    192.168.0.2 - ip
    255.255.255.0 - subnet
    192.168.0.1 - gateway
dns1: 203.172.11.21 <-- this is the dns i got from pldt
    dns2: 203.172.11.25 <-- dns2 from pldt too.

i dont know if unsa imo provider if globe ba or pldt but then just ask them unsa imo dns then mao na sya imo i add sa imo workstation sa sample above its from pldt.

 i hope u get wat i mean.

you can try using both lain2x na ug characteristic mozilla and ie bro. based on my observation mozilla loads faster especially on images when compared to ie. pero security wise i would prefer ie than mozilla which is an open source since most ms technology has good support to their products by releasing monthly patches and addressing software vulnerabilities IMO. but honestly i'm alternately using a proxied mozilla browser and an ie for our lan to surf the web. savvy!

dale2k: security wise?? IE, sir..i think ang IE maoy pina ka less secured nga browser. i tried netscape, opera, mozilla and IE..so far ang IE gyuy vunerable sa attacks. sorry lang ha.

If you use a router, the router get the dns from pldt, so in your network settings, just enter the ip of your router (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) for primary dns. Leave secundary dns blank.

so sa imong LAN..ni start gyud ka ug 192.168.1.2 and etc...cos .1 man ang router. (ni assume gihapon ko) if wala kay server with a DNS service gi butang, then ang router's ip add imong butang sa imong DNS1 sa imong wokstations. no need to put another ip add sa DNS2. =)

mmm my dsl line had a stattic ip, which is better a static ip or a dynamic ip in a business line store cafe, my ISP just change it one day ago and change port because my line got weird one way trafic of download only no upload.
