i'm sorry, i do not mean that the judges are 'ignorant' of this breed. just that in most if not all dog shows, the dogs that do win are the common ones like the beagle, pug, chow, etc... Originally Posted by Ironwood_Cebu

10-30-2010, 04:36 PM #17dogs win because the judge feel they represent (or the nearest to) its breed standards. though always it is based on a particular judge's knowledge of the breed present during the show... though its a vast field to cover (so many breeds being shown), a judge is expected to know and be particular with them all.. that is why it is not easy to be licensed as a judge in dog shows... if a bichon frise being shown is a very nice bichon, meaning it approximates its standards, i dont see any reason for it not to win...
maybe what you meant is that, due to its rarity (or the rarity of its enthusiasts)
breeding the "perfect" specimen of the breed is a hard task... so in return it will be hard for the dog to win in the shows...

i guess you have a valid point here. i noticed that there are very limited bichons here in the philippines such that the line has overlapped quite a few times. there are just not enough bichon imports yet. Originally Posted by Ironwood_Cebu
