i have nikkor 35mm - works for me in portrait. sometimes when i'm outside and wants to get some better bokeh and close ups for my son and wife playing outside i uses nikkor 55-200mm.
18-105mm - since you're still learning the curve i strongly suggest to stick with this lens. this lens offers something that you haven't unbolted. once you mastered this lens you have the option to take it to the next level and purchase a lens with wider perspective - it's up to you.
but first you have to make up your mind what would you like to be, occasional/family photographer, landscape, macro, photo journalist, wedding, Sto. Nino Photographer, Plaza Independencia Photographer, Cosmo Politan Photographer etc. - make up your mind or else you will end up just collecting lens.
enjoy it.
ps. when purchasing a lens always choose a VR or something related.
Olympus - ZD 12-60mm f/2-4 ED SWD
Canon - Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC HSM OS Macro
