    Depending on the hardware configuration of your FreeNAS. QNAP and all of the other NAS hardware has CPU, Motherboard, memory, components inside too. The only difference is that it is very user friendly and the GUI is very easy to use and manage. Using Qnap does not require any knowledge with linux or other configuration issues. Overall power consumption is dependent on the hardware power consumption. Assuming more or less same hardware configuration with your FreeNAS, I would say power consumption would be more or less the same.

    Yeah, I agree. FreeNAS could be a little bit intimidating if you don't know a thing about linux.
