@chipmunk: have you tried both camera's already? i need actual responses from actual users. reviews are reviews... if gibayaran siya sa canon or nikon to endorse the item then mao gyud ipa labi nila. mas nindot unta actual. based on your own experiences.

get the E3 for its ruggedness and weathersealing---splash and dust proof
and your change or "sukli" get the highend weathersealed lenses to pair up with it
and take a tour with it to break it in.
me I'm eyeing for an E3 if finances permit me
so far I'm happy with my E510 which I had for 2 years plus already.

since the ts mentioned that his dad shall only give him the option between oly and pen.
but since his budget is great, if i were him, e sagad nalang nako to either of the two leading models/brands. i would go either with canon or nikon (in where the flagships, nikon wins). e explain nalang sa iyang dad why..
sorry but those olympus and pentax are no match with canon or nikon in most aspects. so why waste the one shot with the none top-notchers.

kay no matter how highend or expensive ur cam will be, like some if not most, you still will end up postprocessing it
