both places are safe..my hometown is in gensan..maybe your wife heard about the bombings that happened BEFORE in gensan..but today, it's already safe.. .mas delikado pang dalan sa cebu...

both places are safe... actually im in iligan city right now due to my work as internal auditor of a private company dinha sa cebu.. kung naanad ka sa cebu nga puro bisaya magsuroy2x, ayaw lang katingala dire sa iligan nga makasugat ka sa dalan ug mga muslim brothers & sisters nato nga nasul-ob sa ila traditional nga attire ang uban kay murag mga ninja mata ra ang makita kay normal ra na dire.

My grand mother(who died last2 yrs ago @ a very ripe age of 98, one of the oldest seniora in the old city) migrated to iligan in 1932, our family though from cebu (lola) and Bolinao pangasinanan(lolo) are very proud to say that we are ILIGanons, mga latinanay! hehehehe, and proud to say that we are MINDANAOANS. I think both places are safe(gensan and Iligan) pero ayaw pangita ug night out didto kay wala kaayo na didto which is a good thing, way Mango square didto nga type nga hangout...its a good thing...wa kaayo kay tintasyon....A GOOD THING...its our culture...nga mo uli ug sayo sa pamilya.....and when you talk about modern2x wa man kaayo na sa iligan makita sa city..its in the minds of the people..Iliganons have a high standard of living due to the industrial boom (industrial city of the south) and most of the pipol are educated bya pud because of MSU IIT. and MSU main campus in marawi (probably the cheapest school in the country but world class in its training.) ang mga tao sa ILIGAN mka afford ug lakaw2x and sshop sa big cities like Manila, cebu CDO etch.....well so much wwith it basta OK ra ang Iligan..lets just do away with the superficial compare2x on who is modern or not kay wa na sa aminities kaayo ma kita..its the culture and breeding...

i was born in iligan, grew in cebu and work in gensan for a while... gensan and iligan? layo ra kaau ng gensan sad oi, daghn taxi sa iligan but in gensan? na panagsa ra sa tanan panagsa. habal2x ila taxi did2 sa gensan hahaha

dont get me wrong..i have nothing against iligan, in fact 2 of my sisters graduated in msu marawi..i think the quote above "opened" the issue on modernity..in my first reply, i even said that BOTH places are safe..addressing ts' query: if both places are safe...
