man, you want to learn go to a music school... you'll learn quickly (no offense, to you guys), but you're money's worth it... cause if you ask this guys in here, i'm pretty sure they'll be hesistant of asking for tutorial fee even though they say it's free of charge... but if you want, offer them some booze or pie...

You know, I'd like to meet some of the guitar gunslingers who post on istorya...It might be fun to put together a "Guitar Workshop" some day. Maybe share some of our experience and techniques with these young guitarists. Anyone interested? - vince

Very brilliant idea. I even suggested that in one of the threads here. We could meet and share what we have learned.

Playing good rock or blues guitar has a lot to do with vibrato, string bending, phrasing, attitude and TONE. Those 5 elements are the essense of good soloing. You should be constantly working to improve the foundation of your sound. Plus, ALWAYS try to stay in tune when you practice. Playing an untuned guitar will do more harm than good. My favorite players: Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray, EARLY Clapton (Cream era), Jeff Beck, Robben Ford.

Oops! Forgot to list Hendrix, Leslie West (Mountain), Steve Lukather (Toto) and Chet Atkins...Also, some examples of really "tasty" guitar parts players: Neal Schon, Mike Campbell (Tom Petty's band), and the guy who plays with Bryan Adams. I'm talking about guitar parts that are perfectly crafted to enhance and compliment the song. Now that's a talent that shows real understanding of the instrument. I guess I should also include Yngwie Malmsteen and Tony Macalpine...these guys RIPPED in the 80's "neo-classical" period of instrumental music.

If you're in cebu, look for Mr. Benjie Rigor. I think he's with the band Centerfold. Tell him Rio recommended him to you. Wala na koy nakit-an pang kinamaayohan mugitara nga taga-cebu, si Benjie ra. PERIOD

I would say Edgar Anciano if Cebu is the place.

I can already rate him as a guitar virtouso.

I'm curious to know what kind of gear you guys are using here in Cebu. I noticed that the selection in the stores is kinda limited. I think it would be cool to do a "tone summit" sometime. We can compare amps, guitars and effects etc. in a quest for the "perfect" tone... I don't use pedals anymore cos I use a modeling amp with built-in effects, but I still have the pedals to mess around with.
