Theoretically, you can, but it would require an insane number of sensors per given area, and an insane number of modelling programs to determine whether a particular section of bedrock under stress due to tectonic movement is about to "snap" or not. To the uninitiated, an earthquake is caused when rock deep in the earth "snaps" due to pressure caused by opposing movement of the tectonic plates that rock is riding on. I'm pretty sure that, one day in the future, given the prerequisites I cited above, earthquakes can actually be predicted.

As to the threadstarter's post, the chances for a major earthquake occurring in the Philippines is not remote naman--statistically, the chances of this occurring has been building up since the major Philippine earthquake of 1990, and it's been 19 years since then. Thus, the prediction can range from "next year" or "the year after that" and so on. It's not an accurate prediction, and thus the manner by which the threadstarter created the title of the thread is non-acceptable (it borders on sensationalism and has the potential to cause panic). I advise the threadstarter to change the title accordingly, otherwise I shall be forced to close the thread.

if technology becomes better and cheaper, maybe in the far far future we can really predict earthquakes ..this is still in the far future since approximately 2/3 of earth's surface is covered by deep oceans..so dako2x jud gasto ani if we want to cover as many earthquakes as possible..

Latest Earthquakes in the World - Past 7 days

here's a list of latest earthquakes happening around the globe. last monday naigo gyud ang manila, mga around 5.2 ang magnitude, pero tungod kay wala may damage nga nabuhat ug daghan gyud kaayong mga tawo nga wala maka-feel so gi-baliwala ra pod nila.

pero kami didto sa among room kay na-feel gyud namo ang pag-shake sa table, pero just a few seconds lang pod

I'm living in a country with lots of seismic activity.
Every year the company have earthquake drill.
    We have one yesterday actually
The have some sound effects over the PA System.
The coolest thing is the simulator, it has a dining room setting
you can see stuff breaking when it starts shaking.

    ---------------
The best thing is to be prepared and know what to do when it happens.

mas kato-on kun mga eksperto jud mao mo -ingon dili lng mugna.

mas safety cguro sa balay labi na payag ra , bisan matumpag pa , molapos raka sa atop.

pero sa building , lisod jud kay sa matang lawi "delubyo" maglisod jud ug protect nimo ang table even if mo tago ka sa ilalum .

crouth cover and hold . mao ni and 3 sec rule daw.

mas swerte lng ka kun nindot pagka desighn ang building , like naa daw giant bulitas sa ilalum sa building , pra equake .
mo sabay ra cya sa alon nga mundo.
