what database you are talking here that needs somebody to worry about? we deployed database structure, not a database server (which need license but not you but from your client), customer asked you to write it for their Xdatabase Server, you deploy that with no worries at all. and NO! its not your scope that you need to worry about, if they are not using a legit copy of Database Sever.
aside from that, if you are talking about MS and Oracle here, they already expanding a FREE Database Engine since 2005. I'm not against to these opensource like MySQL and PostgreSQL.. ORACLE and MICROSOFT is constantly improving, and they giving such free packages more likely more than to what opensource can give., talking about Enterprise editions, is NOT FREE,
You have Oracle Database 10g Express Edition to choose from, Free to develop, deploy, and distribute, similar to what we have in SQL Server Express Edition. As far as I know the upgrade is not that expensive, the cost and effeciency is helpful when you got tons of items to hold. Even Opensource database are not completely FREE, it used to, but business is business... there is MySQL Enterprise, and there's that Microsoft and Oracle Enterprise, talking about support? I can't tell about MySQL, but I can guarantee Microsoft SQL support team in singapore is 24/7, which works fine to almost every small-medium to big companies here...
but again, nobody deploy a database
we deploy database structures, which already been decided during the first phase of the project.
