ive seen n natgeo bro dat only a puffin dog has an xtra digit so dat seems to be abnormal n a sense for ur dog

don't take off the extra digits coz swertehon daw na sila.i have a bisaya dog who got 6 toes on each hind paw and buyag lang a lot of good things had happened to us..don't know if coincidence lang but let's just accept and be thankful whatever blessings are given to us.and a dog is a blessing ......

hehe.. mao sad na giingon sa akong mga tita before.. i had this st bernard pup with dewclaws and they didn't want to have them removed because swerte daw.. naay term sa bisaya ana.. i forgot.. but i dont think this is true.. because my pup died.. tsk tsk tsk

he was really healthy man.. nindot kayo ug kaon.. active kayo (magtunga sila sa akong isa ka iro ug isa ka planggana every meal before.. hehehe).. murag rabies man gud to (nagchange iyang behavior nya nakapaak) although negative daw pagpatest nako sa Dept. of Agri.. Malas lang gyud..

but if you want your pups' dewclaws removed, the most ideal time would be right after birth daw(they heal faster and scars are less noticeable).. later than that, the cartilages and bones involved might have already developed causing complications when the dewclaws are removed.. so it really is the breeder that has the chance to decide to have them removed or not.. if you're into shows, dewclaws are a fault so when you're buying the dog, be sure to check for dewclaws as well as for other breed standards.

well let's say that you already have a pup that's older.. just as was my case. i was quite ignorant about dewclaws and failed to check them when i bought my saint bernard (hence the cheaper price). but when i noticed them later on i freaked out and went asking around what these extra digits were (hence this thread). i went to a vet and he said that he could removed them even at the pup's age but i hesitated and researched more about it.. later, not only did i find out that its not ideal to have dewclaws removed from older pups but i also discovered that the vet had only one single experience with dewclaw removal in vet school.. hehe

@pike: are you sure you're not the person you say you aren't wehehehe.. familiar man gud.. if im correct you could be that person who borrowed my basset hound ages ago.. hehehe
