^ for me widgets and the colours they used are too childish for my liking. very colourful pambata kaayo. too much reduncy too if you look at their omnia2. you can access the menu by clicking the start button or by pressing the cube and by just flicking your finger sidewards. nasobrahan sa idea, balik balik nalang. at first i was impressed with the widgets thats why i bought an omnia but after a few weeks junk na kay way lami. though if i get a chance ill buy an omnia2 not because of their UI's and widget but because of their AMOLED screen and very responsive screen not like omnia1, ill just try to flash it to experia UI or much better HTC UI's
jet is only a feature phone (touch whiz) i guess but they claim that it is smarter than a smart phone... thats what they advertise here in sg.

seems your firmware is quite new. the latest though is S8000XEII2

first off, it's gonna switch you phone version from s8003 (asian market) to s8000 (european market). this will activate the samsung navigation software and will allow you to use route66 navi system with your phone. advantage of route66 over google maps is that it can run with just the built in GPS, no need for a network connection. the down side is that there are a limit to the available maps, and maps that have advanced functions like turn by turn voice guidance come at a price.

    so, on with the improvements:

    > revamped music interface (much smoother and cleaner)
    > improved cover flow performance (much smoother now)
    > DLNA is now available
    > improved widgets (facebook, myspace, adnd twitter widgets now have a widget app on the screen when you drag them out instead of just taking you to the mobile site)
    > now able to rearrange menu icons
    > new media browser for browsing photos and videos (can sort media files by time, tag, face and rating and has two views - thumbnail and a thumbnail-cover flow combination)
    > now able to install java files from phone (just need to copy the .jad and .jar installation files)
    > faster thumbnail scrolling
... and some more system improvements

i can give you a demo since i updated my phone two weeks ago when the firmware came out.

This phone looks good, however, being a Nokia user for more than a decade, I find it hard to get used to non-Nokia UI's. with a big exception on iPhone which I believe has the only right to outshine Nokia.

If given the chance, I'd like to try this Samsung Jet though.

Nope, its not very responsive... alot of users complain about that, i read it somewhere just cant remember what site to. personal experience.. di gyod responsive especially compared to omnia2.

about sa widgets, u have to drag them out para magamit nimo sila, its just a shortcut for the most commonly used applications. search sa youtube para makakita ka unsaon.

i did the upgrade by myself.

regarding the streaming, naay uban routers nga problem jud ang streaming. akong router sa balay dili jud ko ka-stream sa akong jet. but i tried connecting to the free wifi @ sm and streaming worked great. we're still trying to figure out unsa ang settings kailangan para sa routers that are having trouble with streaming but so far no luck pa.

btw, try Hang 10 Technologies presents VuiVision - Hang10Tech.com on your jet. nice ilang streaming. they have US channels like fox and nbc.

btw, in case naay nag-lisud diri, I successfully installed that latest New PC Studio (New_PC_Studio_1.3.0.IJ1) under Windows 7 64-bit (Retail 7600), after a few days of searching how, by changing it to run in Compatibility Mode for Vista SP2 then finally using "Run as administrator" instead of the normal execute.

Though I'm getting used to the Samsung Jet's UI, I don't like the way they designed the menu for some simple actions. It's already frustrating to be always looking at the keypad/keyboard while typing text (compared to a regular non-touchscreen keypad) but I have to get through a few more menus just to perform something that a non-touchscreen phone can do in just less than 5 screen transistions.

I just updated mine to S8000XEII2 this morning after I finally got the NPS to detect my unit under Win7 64-bit, daghan changes.

I especially liked the way I can bring the cursor back to delete & modify typos--something I thought I had to live without after I just got the Jet.

The widgets for social networks are now fully functional instead of just shortcut links that points to the default mobile site.

The virtual keypad and keyboard layout were a bit changed, the keys are a bit bigger now. I like the way the menubar of the browser stays while I bring up the keypad/keyboard to enter a URL.

Thanks to aridoasis for giving the heads-up about the latest firmware available.
I just hope the next update addresses the issue regarding inserting a contact detail into a message.

@cyril: what problem with inserting contact detail do your mean?

there are 2 ways to send contact details:

messages > create message > message > (be sure to do this) tap on "Tap here to add text" (if it brings you to the input screen, don't type anything and press the back button)

    from there...
    option 1
more > add attachment > namecard > pick the contact > insert
(this will convert your message to mms format)

    option 2
more > insert > namecard > pick the contact > choose the info you wanna include > insert
(this will still retain the sms format of the message)

note: if you miss this step (be sure to do this) tap on "Tap here to add text" (if it brings you to the input screen, don't type anything and press the back button), you will only have option 1
