FACT: There is no evidence that the legendary "dragon" creature exist--no fossil record etc.
FACT: A type of lizard named the Komodo Dragon exists around the islands near the Indian Ocean. However, in terms of physical appearance, this "dragon" doesn't resemble the classical, legendary dragon (the classical "dragon" actually is more serpent/snake-like and can fly...the Komodo Dragon is more lizard-like in form), and in fact, the term dragon was bestowed upon it in recent times. It's similar to calling Pacquiao "Pacman" (i.e. the term Pacman wasn't invented AFTER Pacquiao became famous, it already existed as a term to describe a fictitious character who loves eating power pellets).
FACT: This point is specifically directed to the threadstarter. In ancient times, when humans couldn't figure out what they saw, they attach a lot of legendary attributes to the event, creature etc that they've seen. One good example is a solar eclipse. Since people a long time ago, didn't know why the sun was dimming and becoming black, they invented the concept of BAKUNAWA, a serpent that ate the sun, and spat it out again. Nowadays, we know that the Bakunawa doesn't exist, and the thing that covers the sun is actually the moon. Science expands horizons and eliminates erroneous concepts.
