@ScorpionQueen: What about those who are not hired by SneakInDesign? Are they paid for their two samples? I've not encountered that company pa.

When I still had access to AshtonHome, I happened on one post on its message boards that discussed StartRankingNow's payment methods. SRN was requiring 3 custom samples from its applicants and also offering to pay for them. The catch: You need to be owed at least PHP1,000 or so before they will issue any payment. I never really paid this much attention since I thought we would work within Guru's system and under the security of escrow. And of course, I had informed the company that they may only use my free sample to help them decide about hiring me.

@dexterdal: Yup, I'm a full-time freelance writer! I have an ongoing project with a great client who funds and releases escrow without any prompting.

@Iatjad: sorry dugay reply. Yes, for Sneakindesign, they pay the applicant/author for the two samples once hired.

I accidentally stumbled on this interesting thread and thanks to you guys, I learned that I was also an unknowing victim of Start Ranking Now. I have submitted 3 samples sometime in January 2009 in compliance with their requirements for new writers. After several unfortunate rejections of my articles due to an assortment of defects and problems, I finally gave up on my application with them and started looking at other opportunities.

It was the right decision as, after nine months, I was able to establish a good reputation as a professional and competent freelance writer and I am earning a decent income (Pxxx,xxx.xx) at the moment.

Going back to my first 3 samples I gave to Start Ranking Now, I discovered that it was submitted to EzineArticles by an Ezine Expert Author by the name of Rachel Nunez. I immediately lodged my complaint and requested EzineArticles to remove the article and sanction Ms. Nunez for the infringement. I got a prompt reply and the subject article was immediately deleted.

However, I felt that this is not enough and I have expressed to them that I am expecting a penalty which is commensurate to the act that was committed. I know that my experience with Start Ranking Now is not unique and that there are many other victims out there.

Hope we can come up with more concerted effort to spread the word and warn other potential victims.

Bro, Rachel Nunez is only one of several pen names. Ang culprit jud ani kay ang blogger anang "Stomper Mom." Glad to know you're doing well without Start Ranking Now's "help" kunohay. Let's just hope other writers will be able to read this thread before they fall prey to Start Ranking Now's scamming tactics. Dollars raba kaayo sila mu-charge sa ilang clients. They're milking Pinoy writers dry.
