Before blaming the Church, we should check the facts. This Fr. Suarez has done many good things, but is also controversial. He is now in hot water with the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church has reserved its comments whether the healing priest is for real or a sham, adding that it needs to “study" him first.
“Whether the person is an instrument of God for healing of the body and soul, that is still to determined," Oliveros said.

MANILA, Philippines -- The sessions of popular healing priest Fr. Fernando Suarez have not been following instructions of the Catholic Church, a prelate warned on Monday.

Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, CBCP vice-president, said Oliveros’ complaint was “a message for Fr. Suarez that it’s good to continue the healing Mass, but with proper procedures.”
On Suarez’ healing power, Ledesma said the possibility of healing is always there. But “because of experiences in the past, we have to be very careful that people are properly given instruction [and] not to anticipate instant miracles,” he said.
As for his statue project, apparently it's not just a statue. He intends to build an entire religious center with facilities for the poor. His group has previously engaged in many contraction projects that benefit the poor, as well as livelihood projects, livelihood seminars, scholarships. etc.

Oratory of the Blessed Virgin Mary at MonteMaria
Suarez has announced he will attempt to build a shrine to the Blessed Virgin at Montemaria, in Batangas City. It will consist of a rosary garden, Stations of the Cross, Eucharistic, Adoration, Divine Mercy, Infant Jesus, Saint Joseph and Saint Mary chapels, Scala Sancta, a columbarium, retreat houses, campsites, lodging houses, conference center, international center for the poor, and a replica of the House of the Virgin Mary. On January 7, 2007 the ground was broken at the site, accompanied by a tall statue of Mary. The statue itself will be thirty-three stories high, which is even taller than the Statue of Liberty upon completion. The entire project is being finalized and scheduled to begin in 2008. Contractors believe it could be done in two to four years. The statue is to be hand-made by sculptor Ed Castrillo, the Philippines’ most prolific builder of public monuments (who celebrated his 40th year as a professional artist in 2006).
The world's tallest Marian statue would stand 110 meters, with 92.9 meters (or 204 feet) of that would consist of the statue of Mary. In his 2 hectare studio in Molino, Cavite, Castrillo said, the head, feet and hands are in cut-and-welded brass medium, while the body would be in stainless steel. The metal medium sculpture differed from Liberty, which is in soft concrete.
It is important to do some research before coming to conclusions. So far, the authenticity of Suarez's healing powers is undecided. As for his construction projects, I wonder if it is as extravagant as it first seemed. It's more than just an expensive statue; there are useful facilities to be built as well.
But I'm not ready to pass judgement on this yet. More facts have to be analyzed. Bot one thing is sure: you can't blame the Church for what he's doing. This is his own thing, and apparently not all the bishops approve of all he is up to.
