i have a canadian friend back there, he downloaded from a torrent bot at TPB(i wont mention the meaning of this acronym) and 2 days later, he got a warning letter from his ISP. What he doesn't know is that the torrent was actually monitored by the Government. The same goes to the question sa thread starter. Better buy stuff than downloading them if you don't know how to be sneaky in the internet

but in terms of software/music/movies, i stand on a fact that it is fair to share. sharing that doesn't include profiteering or capitalism. my definition of piracy is downloading/copying copyrighted stuff and then selling it.

for example, people who download songs and burn then sell them. i tell you, screw them. they deserve to die. although there are friends of mine who offers me money to download music for them, i refuse their offers and i do it for free instead(free man gani ang cd-r nila). if sharing on the internet is equivalent to stealing, its better than stealing and selling it.

    my opinion on piracy

I also received a letter from my ISP Comcast ,two as a matter of fact. I noticed that I got those letters after I downloaded a recent movie. So my advise would be to download only old torrents don't go for the latest and greatest. HTH!

Yup, ISP's have the right to cut you off if you violate things like these.. it's within the agreement. Pero normally, they warn you first.. pareho ra sad sa spamming gud. In our case, we give 2 warnings. After the 3rd violation, we block their IP... they wouldn't have any choice but to buy another set of IP's. Then the 4th violation would merit deactivation of the line. There might also be penalties if the Copyright owner would pursue it.

But there are tricks to downloading torrent.. it's just unethical to share them here

what do you mean its stolen? there's no such thing as stolen in what im saying. most of the downloadable things you find in the internet aren't stolen, people buy them first and crack it and share it. so where's the stealing?

my understanding about sharing stolen things is that you have to actually go to datablitz and steal a copy of cod4 in there and then you share it. that's stealing.

    again, it is my opinion

Software : Most of the softwares (if not all) that are shared come with a crack or are already cracked. People that shared them, didn't buy them. They downloaded the shareware, created cracks, then shared the cracked version. If that's not stealing, I don't know what is

And btw, people who buy costly softwares never share them, they even have them on lock and key so no one else can use them. Ask the company you're working for if they would want to share with you the exchange server that they bought for 200k pesos

Music/Movies : Ok, let's not talk about sharing first.. let's see how the process is done. Most films are taken from live broadcast/showing, specially if it's pay per view or new movies that just came out. Then these materials are reproduced.

If you looked at the latest FBI warning that says - "the new labels spell out that unauthorized copying and distribution of digital content is punishable by law" - if you look at that, it doesn't even say anything about commercial use. So klaro kaayo nga naa ang violation sa reproduction, and sharing these materials on the net is a reproduction in itself. So, pag share pa lang sa original owner, ni violate na sya ana. Then while you are downloading, you form part of the seed that's redistributing them.. so you yourself also reproduced something you didn't own. I think that's pretty clear.

di man illegal ang pag gamit sa torrent. ang pag upload/download og copyrighted content ang illegal. utorrent ako gamit pagdownload og copyright-free content like personal videos kay mas dali raman. ako bro sa america ingon siya kay no no gyud ang copyrighted material pero gamit siya utorrent para pagsend sa iyang personal videos padung pinas.
