For entry level printers.... it is not advisable to have it repaired if outside warranty. Coz the chance of having it fix might be there but the chance of having the problem again is quite high.
Another consideration is the price for the new printers now. If you add the inks, the printer cost might even be cheaper than having it repaired plus parts. The best of all is that the new printer comes with 1 year warranty.
One thing to consider for printer repair is if the printer is a highend printer... then it might be worth having it repaired.
All printers have a paper sensor.... try to open the back portion of the printer and check if there is a paper or anything that's blocking the sensor.
