ive seen pics and read some articles from foreigners who have been there.. its really really beautiful. If ever I can afford it, or if ever i find the time,i would like to spend some time there with family or love ones, money is nothing if you can see a glimpse of nature or heaven
I was also hesitant about the malaria but after much research, i found out that the malaria is found deep in the forest at the southern areas of Palawan. El Nido is north.
RE: the abu sayaf, after the incident, if ever anything came out of it, one thing that came out of it is that security in the resorts and surrounding areas is much stricter.
Going to El Nido doesn't have to be expensive also. There are always ways of traveling on a shoestring budget--alternative means of transportation (like taking the bus or boat from Puerto Princesa instead of the plane), different levels of accomodations (instead of staying at the well known resorts which are the El Nido Resorts--the Lagen and Miniloc Resorts, there are other smaller accomodations in El Nido town proper which dont cost an arm and a leg. Plus the bright side is, you get to do the same things you'd be doing at the bigger resorts but at a cheaper price. coz tour operators in the town offer boat tours and kayaking at really affordable prices.
you just really have to do your research and not mind roughing it if youre on a budget.....but the experience you get out of it?.......priceless
