first gen is not 3g, you're stuck with edge. and its not really usd199 since the service providers will subsidize the price via its data/voice plan. it will still turn out at more than usd199/299.

and right now, at least here in japan, iphone 3g costs jpy23,040 for the 8gb model and jpy34,560 for the 16gb model. of course, it is required to subscribe for the providers jpy7,280 per month voice/data plan for 2 years.

if jpy1 = php0.4, you'll be paying jpy8240 (or, php3296) per month for 2 years for the 8gb model. and jpy8720 (or, php348 per month for 2 years for the 16gb model.

IMO, its apple's marketing geniuses hard at work.

There nothing really cutting edge about this phone. Take a look at it's hardware and features (minus the accelerometer), phones that are two years older are already capable of this or even better.

That is why I'm not really blown away by this release. Yeah it's cheap but it just feels dated already.
