    Default Re: Oscar 2006 Winners

i knew it. deep inside i knew oscar would find a way to play it safe. congratulations to crash.

i'm happy for both crash and brokeback mountain but my heart goes to BBM all the way. probably because i'm. probably because it has affected me more than crash. probably because i thought the single yet universal message of BBM was more striking than the varied and politically-interesting issues presented in crash.

the oscars is not the ultimate measure of the film's success. it's the audience. if one likes crash a lot more than BBM, i totally respect that. no need to argue. in fact we have to be happy because both movies affected people and made people think and evaluate themselves. somewhow, it has made people look forward to see great movies such as these two. i hope there will be more great movies to come out this year. i've seen both movies. both are great in my opinion. relevant and deep.

    cheers!

p.s. the only thing i got pissed off is RPN-9. they told they're going to air the "live" telecast at 9am but it ended up showing at 9:30 so clearly it wasn't live at all. in fact, it was 2 hours delayed. they should stop airing special shows like this. the reception was so crappy. i would have watched it on cable but i didn't see anything on etc or starworld. i even read a complaint from another forum that the replay on RPN at 7pm had cuts and had horrible commercial time lengths.

I guess Brokeback suffered the usual backlash. Still, Ang Lee got the directing nod so that can't be too bad for Brokeback fans. Peace

i found some parts of the show a bit boring. those montages were too boring. there were still highlights in the though.

    - loved the jennifer garner part. she almost slipped ass first and face first. it's a good thing she managed to keep her poise.
    - nicole kidman, charlize theron, and naomi watts were stunning in their gowns.
    - jake looked really cute.
    - dolly parton stole the scene even if the song she sang didn't win for best original song.
    - michelle williams looked average on her gown and heath ledger looked unpolished in that moustache. i wish he shaved it.
    - i loved ang lee's speech. he mentioned that annie proulx (author of brokeback mountain) was there at the show but they never showed her on screen.
    - ziyi zhang looked so thin but she's lovely nonetheless.
    - loved that part when jon stewart said "good evening ladies and gentlemen and...felicity."
    - jon stewart was funny but i still think whoopi goldberg was more funny.

i know. i think crash has certainly gained momentum since winning over brokeback mountain at the SAG awards. however, the same thing happened when the full monty won over titanic and last year sideways won over million dollar baby. who ended up winning best picture? titanic and million dollar baby.

Im sorry but I think many people found Brokeback Mountain so revolting. For me it was an attack against the male population. Trying to destroy cowboy myth and that didnt sit well with the public.

    Offensive kaayo sa cowboy culture.

Some may have that view, but I don't. Just like the movie "The Priest", it's also an "attack" to the priests. But I think the point is not to offend people, rather an eye opener.

I was also thinking that BBM will bag the Best Pic. Oh well.....I think the actors/actresses of BBM were challenged by their roles. Now, I'm curious about Crash

What you saw: Surprise! Crash takes best picture.

What you didn't see: Backstage workers gasp as Crash wins over favorite Brokeback Mountain. When presenter Jack Nicholson is asked if he is surprised by the win, he says, "I didn't expect it because you heard so much about Brokeback," before confiding, "and that's who I voted for." But he cheerfully escorted Crash director Paul Haggis away.
