Blassreiter is German for 'pale rider' which is a reference to the 4th Horseman of the Apocalypse - Death.

As the series progresses, we are not only treated to Biblical mythos (particularly the Book of Revelation) but are also treated to a storyline that even centers on virtues that center on selflessness and sacrifice. Discrimination against race, religion and creed is even tackled in the storyline as well as the exploration of the possibility of immortality and how technology seems to be the key to achieving it and also somehow the means to herald the Apocalypse.

Cynicism is rife throughout the world of Blassreiter. The main character even comes from a very Catholic background and carries with him a Messiah complex. The antagonist espouses a personal vendetta against the cruelty of mankind and yet feels the need to lay down trials for the main character so that he may actually one day stand side by side with him on the same battlefield.

I was extremely touched by the genesis storyline (as told in Episode 13) and so will you.
